I really loved the android girl... I understand she was filmed and you did the motion tracking and added the machinery afterwards right?
And the flying camera was totaly 3D wasn't it? -the lighting in this whole video is great. it's really a difficult task (and CPU consuming) doing this kind of lighting, isn't it?

this is freakin amazing, I love it
is everything 3d? or just bits and pieces?
whatever the case props to you, plus I'm stoked you're canadian, that's hawt

WOW!!! That was awesome!!! Pretty cool music too.
But why did the cars leave behind bits of... themselves?
Either way, still a VERY cool looking ad!
08-11-2004, 08:36 AM
I like how the animated chick is in the car with them in the end
08-11-2004, 08:41 AM

Congrats on a really fresh and enetertaining spot.
The cyborg girl freaks me out a bit, but I guess something was needed to show a futuristic
feel.Just as someone else said the remaining blobs were a bit distracting they should have fallen down like drops of fluid or something leaving marks behind.
The lighting and the animation on the cars are really cool and dynamic. I wonder if it was full CG all the way ? Especially the final skiding shot right before the end.
Execellent work, and on a really tight deadline two.
- I wonder if I could have
Mario over to fix my toilet ?
- It's getting really hot in here. :)

Superb job. Great use of Max/Vray.
08-11-2004, 03:46 PM
GR8 WORK ! I remember your awesome "peeling car " commercial, and now this "cell splitting " one is even better , the idea is brilliant. Will you write a technical article like that of matrix 2002 ?.. I really wish you have time to do that , Also it would be gr8 to put some behind scenes and "on set" pics in your website.
keep up the good work

cool commerical, I really like the animated (cartoon) sequence on the boards as the cars are driving through the city....I don't really like or understand the, some people are calling it the "cyborg" lady, just doesn't make that much sense to me...if it wasn't in there you wouldn't be thinking hey this needs a cyborg in it....good soundtrack though just hate to see how bad it will be chopped down once aired since its so long for a commerical.....
08-11-2004, 04:40 PM
Very cool. It's kinda funny. I am an owner of a silver Matrix like the one on the commercial yet this is the first time Ive actually seen a Matrix commercial. :D
Very nice work. I like the floating bloopy leftovers that get left behind when the matrix splits too.
08-11-2004, 05:27 PM
Wow so cool :applause: Great job! Superb visuals and the music rocks,
08-11-2004, 06:16 PM
Everything that comes out of that studio is Hot! Remember the Toyota 2d/3D joint they did?
08-11-2004, 08:30 PM
What a great commercial! The effects were great, though I'll agree that the floating leftover blobs were a bit distracting, and should have splattered all over a wall or floor, or something to that effect. And yes, I positively loved the 2d/3d peeling commercial (I have to admit I liked it better than this one, actually). And the blonde cyborg chick... What a hottie! :p
Hey cool.... the ad was cool in the theatre... and thanks so much for posting the link to the music... most of the time it's the music that gets left out

Could Someone Please Please Give Information On The Audio Track. I Cant Keep Playing The Same Old 1 Minute Clip Again And Again!!!
08-14-2004, 02:49 AM
Hey, it is very cool. Feeling great watching the car spliting, lol.
Again and again? You want to play using your player, i.e. Quicktime, Media Player, or using in the movie for a background soundtrack?
08-14-2004, 03:45 AM
Cool ad, although I don't understand why there was a "cyborg" in it, it really wasn't needed and I felt it took away from the ad, much more so than the floating blobs. Very cool idea with the cars, and it came together great in the end.
08-14-2004, 05:17 AM
I saw this ad in the theater for Spidey 2. Awesome commercial although I think the Matrix is a cheesey name for the vehicle (because of the movies).
The scene where the car looks like it's going to hit the tunnel divider wall made me think of Princess Di which was kind of disturbing. But then the car splits off into two and the rest is CG goodness. Too bad this couldn't happen in real life. The children of the world would still have a princess.
08-14-2004, 05:33 AM
WOW...this is cool....
You know, I also enjoyed the commercial from the first Toyota Matrix....the one using the "rotoscope" method!!
09-18-2004, 04:08 PM
That is amazing. Love the concept and the execution. 10/10!
01-15-2005, 12:42 PM
Saw and read about this advertisement in discreet.com, interesting indeed, as I remember it was quite a chllenge to make a car split into two cars... great job...

i liked this spot very much, because it has a very nice charme. but what my eye has catched the most, was the really nice morphing effect in the film.
which i'm not yet shure how you produced this Blob-like morphing effect.
so i was since always breaking my head about the effects, and how they have been achieved.
what i think is:
that you needed a 3D model of the car. (it's true that some of the morphings could also be achieved by compositing and maybe a lens deformer as seen on the models)
i suppose you warped the models with a lattrice box or some similar deformer so they would fit together and then blend them in the compositing.
additionally you added some blobs to the cars.
am i right?
which 3D software did you use actually? and which renderer?
was the model a solid Poly Model or did you used nurbs patches, as usually the fact when the geometry is imported from a CAD Platforms?
courious about the answer

I saw this ad many times in theaters. That's the only ad that doesn't bother me. Seriously, outstanding work overall. 5 stars... and that's because I can't give more!
