Thats the kind off thing I want to go for in the cloth sim tearing.
Be cause it is not going to be used for cloth but for skin.And i want to make an animation of skin being pull off the body face hands the lot.And I would like to try and get tearing to just to give that bit more.

You used to be able to download ClothReyes for 3DSMax 3 for free from the site but im guessing your using Max 4 anyway.

But anyway having used it, it is very good and fast, not used its tearing abilities but does produce very realistic cloth. Have you also considered using Flex with springs, quite basic but maybe worth a look.
