I believe if you register for Alias's discussion forums and free online support features, you can log in and click through the link for the 6.0.1 update, where you'll find a PDF of release notes and other info.

The best news are for OS X users!
The MAYA 6 UNLIMITED (OS X) version is included in the update. Now, for the very first time, we mac users can use this tool "with no limits" hehehe :thumbsup:

that's what's weird, i've done that, I select the link and get the "downloading now" window, except nothing is getting downloaded. I'm just assuming that they're site is really busy, that's why I asked if it was mirrored.

Ohh are you using a download manager like Getright? Because Alias have said once that download managers and their website don't agree. I tried it with Getright at first and had the same problem, then I remembered.

i still have a dongle and had to remove and then reinstall the sentinel driver to have my mayas run after the update..

yes I´m a registered user and I also get till to the download page but the download just doesnt start .. so perhaps I also have to use a download client here on OSX
... I tried it with all my mac browsers:
safari, IE, camino, firefox, netscape

I used Safari (OSX) as my browser and it downloaded just fine, in under ten minutes in fact. Of course a broadband connection helps.

Hi Mimo,
eh... are you using "rightclicking a la save as" or just clicking on the link?
if you are clicking on the link are you using popup stoppers?
because if you click on the link, a popup window should appear with the link to the download, and also should start with an download window... :)
(not sure if it works the same on a Mac as on windows thou)... :)

At last! But I'm still asking myself why such obvious bugs like the Channel Box/Component Editor fixes, or the "Maya no longer crashes when changing Plus Minus Average Node operation from 'sum' to" something other, or even the "The Num of Processors to Use setting and Render -n now work" (!!) weren't detected during beta testing. Or was version 6.0 indeed a public beta?
Anyway, it's fixed, let's praise the Lord and work with our favourite 3d-app :)

any logical reason y maya 6.01 refuses to open some of my maya 6.0 files.

maybe you had a beta? If nothing else works try the mayafileconverter from highend3d.com to convert back to 5.0 they will open then. worked for me as I had same problem after reinstalling 6.00

nah its not beta.
maya 6.01 only isnt opening one group of files of a particular model, rig etc.
so i have no idea whats in those files thats causing it to stuff up.
ill try converting it back tho.
only worried that itll lose all the rig information.

narrowing the problem down a little more..
the mayatomr plugin is whats causing it lock up.
on scenes where it is loaded and forces maya to load it also causes the software to
freeze on my machine.

ok so i got round the problem by taking the mayatomr out of the plug-ins folder.
Obviously this doesnt solve the problem but then i was able to import the file in resave and continue as normal.
Interesting if anyone else has the same problem. Or more interesting if they dont... :S

guess this is a no brainer but
the recomended drivers 53.03 are working way better the the latest Nvidia drivers

I have the same problem ... mayatomr freezes maya when I want to start it up.
But it's not only mayas mental ray integration that stopped working ... Softimage XSI EXP version didnt' start either. So any of the mental ray integrated render software wont' start here ...
No solution to this one right now ... I could ony think of that an important system dll which mental ray needs is damaged or whatever ... ??? It's all strange ...

Hi. I've had a similiar problem once with Maya 5. The problem was an internet application I've installed. Probably it was blocking the connection between metal ray and licence server.

yeah.. since the 6.0 version sometimes it stays highlighted but i can not enter values anymore.. i have to click it again then.
btw: the SHIFT+TAB is now logged as a bug @ alias.

It was a little app given by my internet service provider which speeds up communication between my computer and them with compressing data (I have just an 56k). Just deactivating didn't solve problem, I've needed to uninstall it.

As I read in another forum:
Be sure to backup your "maya.rayrc" file (for mental ray) before updating for it will be overwritten. :cry:

Not for me, and a few other computers I tried it on. My performance took huge hit in the viewports with quadro 1100's and it seemed to cause more problems then it solved.
Then again, I never really had a problem with 6.0, so I am back to 6.0.
I logged the performance problem with alias, and a few other bugs.
Bottom line for me....is this "upgrade" is not an improvement at all.

Is 5 frames second a "huge hit"?Yea, when your an animator that optimizes your rigs to work at exactly 24 fps when set to play every frame and then upgrade to 6.01 and suddenly playback is at 18, it kinda ticks you off. Means a whole lot more playblasting and not worth it.
Throws a wrench into the pipe sort a speak. Specially sinse the upgrade from 5 to 6 went smooth as silk.

Where is the maya.rayrc ?
It's located in the x:\Program Files\Alias\Maya6.0\mentalray folder.
If you don't have custom mental ray shaders (e.g. dirtmap) installed, you don't need to backup.

5 fps from 24 is more than a 20% loss... 20% is a pretty significant hit in my books.
so anyone care to say whether the update is worth it or not? so far i think i'm gonna be sticking with 5.0.1 for as long as i can.

i checked 6.01 with a very small not time crucial still frame project and at least stability imrpoved a lot in my view. at least i have no crashes so far..
but i still sense trouble with that version since a lot more bugs were reported here than have been fixed according to the release notes..
to be honest: i will go on with my regular jobs with 5.01 i think - and not only because my dist. render software can not handle 6.0 :/

where is the overscan setting from the camera gone??? i can set it via mel but i do not see the field in attribute editor anymore *weep* (495$ for XSI sound more and more tempting..)

It can be anything which controls package traffic on your computer, a firewall, an antivirus software, or maybe a virus or worm.

Sorry, I guess I playblast too much then. :) Thats the only thing I trusted to let me see how my motion really looks even with just low poly object constrained to the bones. Each has his own way of working I guess. Im a LW user coming over to Maya so I guess I was used to sucky feedback and using previews. Old habits die hard :D

If it were firewalls or antivirus software on my puter that were causing mayatomr plugin to stuff up then technically it should be happening on all of my computers as they all use ez antitrust antivirus and firewall, plus same operating systems and software intalled etc. For some strange reason tho only my main computer seems unable to load the mayatomr plugin. Even if I run the maya files from the main computer from a remote computer over the network they will still run fine.
so wierd.
