View Full Version : Female Head WIP
sanciok 08-02-2002, 07:21 PM I'm still currently working on this model.
I used Angelina Jolie as Ref.
Modeled starting out a single polygon, than hypernurbed :)
I used Hair department for hairs.
All textures were handmade.
five ligths in the scene, no GI.
Any comment or advice?
Ah... used C4D 7.303

hey good one!! just have a few crits on it. first is that i don't like the eyes at all. you really gotta do something about the size and the shape of them. make them a bit smaller(and the ears a little bit bigger). the eye texture looks also pretty dead imho. well that's it! ahh not at all, the hair -well i know making hair is pain in the ass with hairdepartment and you've done an unbelivable job there with HD!!:buttrock: just make the hair a bit thinner. (i know i know-lot more hairs and rendertime then. but trust me. it is worth that!)
Good work :)
I agree with Rogers comments,I would just add the bump map seems a little strong to me and the hair anchor points look like they used to do hair transplants or what they called the picket fence effect,if you can try overlapping the hairs at different levels......I am however not sure how much leeway hair department will give you.You could cover the area by making one of those hair comb thingies ladies put in their hair {dont know the name of it}
Still nice modelling

I know Hair department.....so I would go with a baseball cap and bring a pony tail out the back! Good start though!
 I like the eyes, and the mouth. This is really nice work. Even the ears are pretty good, though they look a little clipped on the top front. I don't like the hair much, but I have S&H too and have yet to do any better. The hair does look plastic to me though, so I would try fooling with diffusion, gloss and Specular some.

Thanks for the feedback guys!
Here is an update.
I changed my mind... couldn't get any better with hair dep.
So i modeled the hair shape and textured it! Is it better? I also changed eyes cuz i didn't really like 'em.

hey that hair looks much better to me.
but i still think that the eyes are too big and need some more little curves in their shape though.

Hey sanciok, you're a really good modeller.
The alpha hair looks a lot better! As for the eyes, I like them! She has a lot of personality with them!
by the way... are the lips seperate? it looks like they're stuck together, and the cheek bones are kinda sunken... other than that, it's pretty sweet!
"Keep it up!"
I think your first try was much better. And I liked the first hair style much more. I agree you need to raise the cheek bones.
Are you trying to match Anjelina Jolie?
She has really weird lips if you are... much thinner than the ones you have in the image.
Coming along nicely
I think the specular on the eyes might be a bit to bright, the other thing being is that the iris/pupil area is not recessed like in real life so the result is that the eye map looks stuck on.On Maxons site in Bunks Messie tute there is a pdf/tute on how to model a realistic eye :)
If ever I am modelling a head I find it much easier to judge proportions without the textures on it,I find the skin distracts me,but thats just my opinion :) Also if you want good facial reference of Women get yourself one of those hideous glossy fashion mags they have excellent close up shots of Womens faces from all angles,I find it really helps me in working out proportions :)

Thanks again guys!
I need more work on all the textures, i know! :scream:
Here is an untextured version!
GI on!

The top of the cheek bones form the groove just under the bottom eyelid,so I would lift the cheek bones a bit as was suggested before :)
Youre almost there

As they say in Absurdish: the best sailors always stand ashore. Meaning that it's easy to critique and difficult to do oneself. Still, I do have a critique: eyelids have thicknesses.
An eye is always covered wit tear liquid and due to gravity this is collected where the eyeball and the lower eyelid meet. This is the lightest spot of the eye and nearly always forgotten in digital rendering of the human face. In my opinion, the lower side of the eyes is not yet natural. Apart from this you did do an impressive job and I'll be a happy man when I reach your level of modelling .
Good to see you here Erik
