Hi there. Does anybody know how to lit sprites. I am working at tornado at the moment but it looks too flat. Maya gives me some options like "Use lighting" etc, but it doesn't seem to work well. If not in Maya, how can I do it in post? What I tried (really amateur way) is render out the nurbs surface of the same shape as tornado, lit with lights in scene. Then use that image a bit blurred out in AE or Shake to combine it with particle pass and get some kind of light on tornado. But this didn't work well. Maybe bacause lack of experience with post.
Any ideas?

Post process would work but it depends on how you prepare the passes or elements. The nurbs surface will work for overall shading information. While for detailed shading, render a pass by turning the sprites into blobbies...and render using "falloff" method... and render an additional of the sprites to act as the matte....usually "multiply", "screen" and "blur" operator works to make it work in post process, at least for me...good luck.
