Well, I was posting it everywhere else, so I figured it might fit in here as well.
I am planning on developing a little tool, that would manage a projects folder structure. As I am an active Aqsis (http://www.aqsis.com/) member I opened some kind of developer blog over there. Please take a look (http://aqsis.sourceforge.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=943) and give me you thoughts, comments, critics, feature requests, well, anything.
If I ever finish it, I might even give it away for free. :D

I looked at your developer blog and it looks like a really nice project that can be quite beneficial to some serious production types. Of course something like this can easily become quite complex (database, backups, etc.), however, first complete your basic utility. I'd have to look at it more in depth before making crits or suggestions, but what you have there seems pretty extensive already. My only question would be to whom is this aimed? Seems like it's aimed to 3D film production. And if so, wouldn't such facilities use commercial or custom tools for data administration? However, if it can be used for ny scenario by setting up a template, then I think many single users will be thrilled by it.

Thanks for taking the time to look Paul_Newman.

Well, I didn't think about databases and backups yet. It really is just supposed to create folders and maybe save/compress the filled folders afterwards. But, hey, I'm always open for suggestions. ;)

Well the aim is actually my little studio (if I might call it that way (two guys in a room)) and yes we do a lot 3D productions, but my intend was flexibility. The folder structure would be completely template based, so one could adjust it to ones needs.
But of course right now there are the fixed sections like film, actor, set, etc. I see. Hmmm, any idea how to solve that one? But on the other hand, as long as you don't need more then the seven predefined categories I think one could live with a mental replacement of, I don't know, "set" for "source code", don't you? I mean you give the folder your own name anyway. The only drawback to this would be that you'd have to memorize which category you used for what in your pipeline.

And replacing these seven labels and adjusting them to your needs shouldn't be a problem at all. I just came up with the great idea, that Python is plain text anyway and you can edit the source code (text labels) to anything you'd like. How does that sound? :D

This sounds great! I'd use it for my personal projects as well. Having a solid pipeline in place each time I start something new would make me much more productive. Best of luck with this and keep us up to date on your progress!

Sounds great!

Are you planning on simpler author-rights management and
It'd be great to have FrameCycler ports, too. They're developing very nice visual communication tools - everything written out as xml data.

Can you give me a link to this FrameCycler stuff? I only know the image viewer.

They have a note-pad type commentary function in the current beta and are working on scribble functions. Combined with author/date info and fed into a project management tool, you've got remote visual management.
