View Full Version : switching from LW 8 to MAYA 5

hi

I'm a lightwave user and I have decided to move to Maya 5 (the reason? lots of reasons, one of them it's I'm a MACINTOSH user and the Mac LW is full of mac issues).

Well, now the thing is: I really need some tips about maya-specific URL's, tutorials, and stuff to make my switch faster.

Any tips?

For now I bought Maya 4.5 Savvy and I'm really happy with it... I hope I can "eat" it before the end of august, wish me luck!

PS: I'm not new to 3D, using lightwave since version 6 and before that using 3Dstudio and 3DSMAX.

http://www.learning-maya.com is a good place to start. The Alias website also has some basic tutorials to get you going in certain areas.

I can recommend gnomon http://www.gnomononline.com videos (also they have freebies in .mov format ), read the manual it is very good, books like secrets of the pros are great too, check this out http://www.digital-tutors.com/digital_tutors/ this should be anough to start, and lots of hours trying everything by yourself. One thing mate, you will miss that TAB button, believe me :D

Hi Digones,

Try to buy "learning maya" in book from alias web site, it have all the introductory documentation for you and the elements that you learn there you will use for the rest of your work.

Then you can choose the way that you like (Riging, modelling, animation,....)
