View Full Version : Modelling Showreel question
DrAdamDinosaur 08-02-2002, 05:55 AM I am currnetly working on my game character modelling showreel and am just wondering about turnarounds/flyarounds of my models. How long should each model turn around and how many times. Also, because I'm not a fan of turnarounds does anyone know a better way to show off my models? I think this is the right place to post. Thanks.

If you really want to impress with your reel you can rig and animate the characters.
But if you do a 'flyaround' it all depends on how slow you turn it. I prefer mid-speed and one rotation in a closed loop. :) Well anyway, show the reel when your done! :D

If you're characters are normally proportioned, eg human-shape, you could try putting them into Quake3, since theres alot to help you. You can get the original biped files made for the cast of characters, so if you're model fits one of these ok it can be an easy way to show off your character in game, without the need to fully rig and animate it.
Go over to www.polycount.com they have lots of tutorials and tools to help.

Thanks guys. I have a few human characters that are rigged all ready and a couple of animals rigged as well. I have decided to do one turn around then when the turn around finishes the character will come to life and do something. Either a walk cyce or an action. I think i will also try and put in little animations in spots to keep it interesting. . I have a LP rigged face that moves and i may try doing an animation with a werewolf character I have. I also have a few human characters that I am making for a game so these wont be rigged or animated. Anyone have any thing to say about this? good way, bad way? I wish I knew about the Q3 thing sooner. Oh well.

One more question, should I display my wireframes in triangles or quads?

I'd definately go for quads. With triangles it's alot harder to discern the shape - especially in still images.

Yep show them in quads as its easier to look at but make sure your polycounts are in tris
