Used a photo as a guide. It's my first digital painting with a drawing tablet. Just got a Wacom Intuos 2.

From an aussie that has seen plenty of koalas in real life this looks pretty good.

did you paint over the top or did you just look at the photo?

Thanks. At the beginning, I traced major contour lines of the koala from the photo. Then I filled in the rest from looking at the source. The koala is as close to the photo as I could make it, but the tree and the background are more original.

How many layers? Only PS6? You use a tablet right?

have you done anything in Painter?

I did almost all the painting on a single layer. More natural that way. Extra layers for some highlighting and touchups here and there... ended up being like 6 or 7 layers or something.

Corel Painter? It came with my wacom but I suck at it. Haven't played with it enough though.

don't even try to use Corel... all programs made by this company SUCKS

but it seems like Painter lets you simulate more natural painting tools. Is there a better program than either Corel or Photoshop?

Painter is excellent, well 6 & (now proCreate) 7 are. The LE version you get with the tablet's not bad tho. There's also DeepPaint which comes with a 'live' link to Photoshop. DeepPaint's media simulation is not as good as Painter's tho, especially when it comes to watercolour: the watercolour tool in painter 7 is just amazing

Nice image. Like that you did in just a few layers.
I haven't seen a Koala in real life but for me the fur looks some kind of Hmm.... can't really figure it out. Not like fur?

I've been Photoshop fan for years now - but i got Painter and a tablet for about six weeks now. It's fun. You need to change someway your workstyle but it's cool.

BTW anyone have good painter tut's?

that is a really nice image, a pretty realistic drawing.

Computers are so much FUN! 3D, 2D whatever, you can do it all
