View Full Version : Environement : Photo Recreation
JFrench 08-01-2002, 07:33 PM Quick two day project to recreate a photo I took. Everything was done in Maya4 and Photoshop6. If I used a displacement I could have got a closer resemblance, but I wanted to keep the model as simplistic as possible. Enjoy.

I'll edit the threadname for this once ;)
as for the image, nice, but not special . . .
also, the pipes are slightly to thick and the wall lacks the detail that's in the pic . . . [especially the protruding part misses some gaps and random natural effects on the stone]
any background info as to what the image is for ??

I think that the brick ridge is giving something away. It might be a lens thing, making it look a little flat. I don't know for sure. I think it is a good job though, I am not sure I could do that good making it look as close as you did.

It isn't for anything other than my personal experience. I wanted to see how close I could get to the photo with using mainly textures. I agree 100% that modeling in the cracks and broken areas would improve the resemblance and overall look. I feel confident in my modeling skills, so this one I focused only on what i could do with textures and lighting. Thanks for the crits. More are welcome.
The brick needs a stronger bump map, I think. You're stuck with the razor edges since you're limiting yourself to low detail modelling, but even the flat parts look kind of like a decal. The color texture is dead-on and really looks great, but it just doesn't convey solidity.
The pipes need a sharper grain or something. They look almost like they were done with a toon shader to me. Too blurry.
Really nice overall effect, though. I like the color textures on the brick and the rusted metal plates.

I think it looks great! , You are getting really close, but if you want to achieve replication, you will need to displace the bricks.
Good luck

notice that the original photo has some "dust or chock" on the breaks. so maybe you want to put another layer of settle of whites painted by sponge. and map it over all withought repeating the texture.
all the pipes need more dirts

due to the sky light lence flare or maybe our enviorment getting dusty. add alitle bit of depth fading or fog will help alot.
