hello everyone. I just got into 3d modeling and I want to learn everything about textures for like making maps for games but I know NOTHING about texturing/modeling. I just know the word texture and that it can be used for making maps. Now I know there is a tutorial like right above this thread but is too complex for me. i think I am the biggest of noobs in this, but I want to try and learn everything I can about textures/modeling. So I dont know if any of you guys know like a tutorial for noobs like me..I've been messing around with blender NOT that i know ANYTHING on how to use it, I would also like to know if there are like any better tools for me to work with. if there is already a thread about all of this..if so, I am sorry and admin sorry for waisting your time well everyones else's time and please delete this thread.

-thank you

Do you know how to use 2D image manipulation / painting software at least? also consider going through blenders tutorials, I'm sure there are some great community sites for it. Check the cgtalk blender / wings3d forum for appropriate links.

You really need to take things one step at a time - learn modeling and master that before you even *think* about texturing. There is no point in rushing into things :)

cool. As leigh said dont rush into two things at once. Youll quickly be overwhelemed and maybe give up out of frustration. Learn modeling and get the basics of working with your app down. Then you can go into texturing. Noobs are always in such a rush. Slow down and youl be alot more succesfull. Once youve mastered the basics youll be much readier for texturing and those oh so complicated tutorials will be alot more manageable. Also if you dont know what a word means in a tutorial look it up online. Say i dont know what specular is i do a quick google and theres 214,000 pages about specular. Heck theres even a specular.com (though its not up and running just a domain.) When you are ready for texturing read Leighs texturing tutorials. There the best out there and very complete. They start from the begining and explain each chanel and then all about uvmapping. allways hav blender open and as you read test what you learnd and find the equivalent in blender. Remember you learn best by doing. Good luck.
