Looks good so far. I hate poly modeling cars....its h a r d for me. As for quirks: There seems to be a bump at the tip of front and the chair's bases look a little short.

Thanks for the info..

I found out that the spoiler wasn't too high, the back was too low. i raised the back and added some tires. i'll post the updates up here soon

out of curiosity are you even using blueprints? the shape is pretty off, especially in the rear.
the print labeled "Ferrari F50 2" on Onno's Ferrari bp's page are pretty good, (http://www.onnovanbraam.com/index.php?m=blueprints&g=cars&id=ferrari) so i would recommend you follow them if you arne't already.

If you're in need of good reference pics (which are more important than BPs), I recommend checking out THIS PAGE. (http://www.cavallino.cc/index.php?section=stradali/ferraris/modele/f50P) There's hundreds of pics from all angles there.

I do hope you continue and improve the model, its a wonderful car:)
good luck.

Actually, yes, I started using blueprints that I got from Onno's page. The car itself isn't too far off from the real thing but the blue prints were hard to match up perfectly so there are some discrepencies. Thanks for the page with the angled shots, I only have a few.

Okay guys, not really going for perfection here and I'm still lacking the windshield (sucking at that, anyone got any tips?) and doors, I suck there, too, as well as no glass over the headlights. A lot of detail is still left out and I won't be posting any wire this time around, maybe next time. Check out the progress.

Where the bump in the hood stops is where the windshield will start.

I personally think that I made the wheels too big.

Its a good start, however i personally don't like boxmoddeling.
Maybe you should try to make seperate parts. Its more work, but way more realistic.
Also the edges of your car aren't sharp enough for example those holes you extruded for you rear wheels. Anyway keep up the good work:) This is my second projects i've been working on
http://infinite3d.net/Sebas/clay.jpg It's not finished yet, but i'm getting close :)

Argodin

Some of it is separate... i pretty much started with one plane and then extruded. i like your car that you did, very nice. like i said up there, i'm not really going for perfection, i just want to make the car. I'm using a meshsmooth to make it look that smooth, should i be using it? is there a way to get around that? do you? thanks for the advice.

Most modellers would use meshsmooth for cars.. I don't see where someone wouldn't use it, except for games such as Vice City or NFS. Here's some links for tutorials on how to work with meshmooth..

And ALWAYS stick to using four-sided faces. That way it smooths better. I don't know why, but it just does. http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Looking good so far.
Crits:
A ferrari wouldn't have anywhere near that much tread on the tyres, maybe go for a "slicks" or a performance tyre.

Everything else about it is looking great, and coming together nicely.
Looking forward to seeing the final work.

Pretty picture, and i'm debating on posting high res ones on my site soon, but they're kinda big(about 450k!) check it out, it's a windshield. The windshield isn't finish, it's just a prototype. I have to add the black border to it, along with the side panels. I need to put the black stripe that stretches the car and the doors as well. Those are the big things I need to do.

you might wanna be pointed towards modeling the interior considering its a convertible

and theres no such thing as a windshield thats just glass

Argodin
09-14-2004, 04:32 AM
The interior, the hood, the windshield wipers, the windshield border, the back taillights and all sort of other little things. I'm not going for perfection.

I'm a huge fan of the F50, and your model is completely off. Did you even use references? Or did you try and stylize the car, because it looks like an off road version of the F50. If you were trying to make the car as close to real world as possible, you have a lot of reworking to do. Nearly every panel, and every detail is off. And those wheels just don't work well with the F50's design. Not sure what else to say. It's a much better attempt than your Viper though, so I do see improvments.

Argodin
09-14-2004, 09:14 PM
Mike... how many times do I have to say it?? Yes, I used blueprints, they weren't great blueprints (from onno, I believe) and it was hard to line up. Not much "style" has been put into the car besides the color I choose. I'm not going to lifelike because I know with my current skill I'm not going to get it. I think it remarkbly resembles the F50; I could recognize it now. Every single panel isn't off but it's certainly not perfect. I started modeling in July, 2004. I've fixed the wheels and tinted the windshield.

I may seem a little sore about your comment. I'm usually good with crit but after saying time and time again that i'm not going for lifelike, you keep critiquing me like I am. It looks like a damn F50 and it's WAY better than when I first started modeling, like you so eloquently pointed out, my viper. I'm sorry I took this personally but I don't want to be critiqued on a pro's level, like Furo and Shaddix.

Chill, no need to be picking on me. I don't read all the posts posted in threads. The whole point of posting in such forums is to get feedback. I gave you feedback, and it wasn't harsh nor rude, unlike the response you returned. If you think the model resembles a F50, then congrats, you met your goals.

And what' this, "I'm usually good with crit but after saying time and time again that i'm not going for lifelike, you keep critiquing me like I am." This is the first time I posted in this thread.

And I don't critique work based on skill or comparing it to other's work. I have no idea who Furo and Shaddix are.

About your Viper, I made a post in that thread, and even tried helping you out, so no need for the attitude. I said this F50 was better than that Viper not as a means of disrespecting you.

Argodin
09-14-2004, 09:46 PM
Oops, yeah, Sorry about that, I had something someone else had said about references confused with you. But I said sorry, no real attitude.

A few new things, finished the windshield for the most part, fixed the door... I've pretty much achieved what I was going for. I made a cool car (in my mind). It resembles the F50, though in most eyes it's not even close. I'm going to start modeling new things to further my skill.

I do have on question... how do I animate this thing in Max 6? I want the camera to follow a line in an animation, preferably circling the car. Any help would be great! Thanks.

http://www.students.uwf.edu/rsm9/pictures/cg/ctf512.jpg (http://www.students.uwf.edu/rsm9/pictures/cg/ctf.jpg)

Things left to do:

1. More extrusions for cavities in spots like the hood.
2. Door handles.
3. Better windshield.
4. Optimized mesh.
5. Better, more pimp rims.
6. Pack taillights.
7. Whatever you guys point out that i feel needs fixing.

I don't get it... Why don't you just try to make this f50 lifelike. Now that's a goal instead of a car that just resembles the car. With an attitude of: it's better than my previous work you won't get very far. At least it will be good for your skills to make this f50 look like the real one because now it has the shape of the f50, but the details are way of. You should know that the beauty is in the details :)

Argodin
11-14-2004, 03:18 PM
Because I don't want to make an exact replica of an F50, so your critique was not necessary. The F50 was just something to go off of. Besides, I'm still working off that "it's better than my previous work" which is all a beginner has to go off of. It's encouraging.

Freefall
11-14-2004, 03:28 PM
I'm pretty much a beginner myself. My opinion is that going for something that's better than your previous work is not more than normal. I don't think anyone would make something when it wouldn't be better than his previous work. Anyway, I think creating the f50 but not really creating it is kinda bullcrap, cause you want to make it look like the f50 but not really... it's just my opinion. I won't bother you anymore

Not a finished project, but a great learning tool since I started modeling in July. I started disconnecting things and modeling them separately, like the door. Heck, the door even has a door handle, even though it's hard to notice in this picture. This is a small picture linked to a desktop wallpaper version, which you're free to download and use. As for the modelling. Keep working, you're getting better.

Thanks szyszek. As far as my renders, I'm content, as for my model, my mesh is too dense on the hood, I think. Drop me a line on AIM if you want a look at it.
