What I want:
Render my yacht out in a different pass then the ocean.

Problem:
Alpha channel has holes in it

Question:
Why do I get this distorded alpha channel when I put the option "Unseen by alpha channel" on for the yacht? No transparency is on...

Please see attached alpha channel render

Thanks,

John

is your yacht one piece? other objects maybe included in the alpha that you're not aware of. how does the beauty pass look?

Thanks for your reply!

I made the yacht 1 piece for this cut. The hull needs to intersect with the water.

Any suggestions?

Johnhmm. that is weird. it may be possible that some surface have different alpha channel settings? all i can think of right now, if you cant get it to work is to separate the beauty pass from the alpha pass. get rid of the water during the alpha pass.

edit: the "holes" might be caused by the water object.

Thanks for your reply. The reason that the alpha channel was so important is that I also will be using Refraction. In other words: I need to render out the water and yacht at the same time.

I found a solution:
Rather then using: "Unseen by alpha" in the object property: "constant value" = 0 for water and 255 for yacht. Can be found in the advanced tab of the surface editor.
This is much more precice!

John
