Here's another interesting tidbit that I happened upon - to Preview render the Onion Skin effect, make sure you're in Customize or Animate mode. Then right click on the Play tab and then click on the drop down menu Record Preview. It won't work if you're in the Play tab, unless, you uncheck the Animate Mode Only button under Customize>Onion Skin.

Now this may not work for everyone, as it seems hardware specific. My desktop would only record a few frames and then just go red on me. The animation preview below was done on my laptop. Also, I noticed if I minimized while it was recording then all I got was black frames at that point on.

Well, that's because it is a hardware rendering and the frames are grabbed just from the screen. If there is no screen (minimized) to be grabbed from, you get a black image. That's the same as with Maya's damn fast Hardware renderer. Well, it fast, ok, but you also can't do pretty much else while rendering.

Heh heh...that looks freaky:twisted: I believe I experienced the same thing MarvinTMartian mentioned about Maya, with XSI's Capture feature. I couldn't screw around with anything when doing a capture viewport.
