View Full Version : Transferring UV's across poly objects???

I am relatively new to Maya, but I have exported a model from 3ds max into maya, using two different methods, but one method leaves my UV's in complete dissarray, and the other carries the UV's but triangulates my mesh. Maya's Quadrangulate function is not removing the edges, which is obviously giving me bad smoothing problems.

So being as I have two meshes in maya...one is a mesh with the proper topology that is missing UVs and the other is triangulated with the UV's. Is it possible to transfer the UV data to the mesh that isnt triangulated. I am assuming there is a way to do this rather simply, but I dont really know how to go about it correctly.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. You can also email suggestions to me at dgainous@3dfury.com

How did you export your model from MAX to Maya?
However I suggest using the FBX file format from Kaydara, it's a free plugin for most 3d package. Or use a Wings3D or the demo of Silo...etc

I found a little plugin that exports obj files out of 3ds max for one way. The second method involved importing a 3ds file into DeepUV and then exporting out the obj file.

The obj export from max messes up the UVs

The DeepUV method carries proper UVs but triangulates the mesh.

So there in lies my proplem. Thanks again...ill give the filmbox translator a try

FBX worked great...kept my mesh as quads and the UVs...thanks alot for the suggestion
