First off, do you have any MPEG codec installed? One thing to remember is that 3ds max only recognizes Video-for-Windows and QuickTime codecs, not any of Microsoft's DirectShow codecs.

There are lots of programs for encoding.
Apple Quicktime6 Pro is the latest one.

best way to make an mpeg imo is to render your scene as an avi !uncompressed!, then get cleaner5 from discreet, you can download it for free(30days or somthing) try it out its the best tool for the job

I agreee that the best way to do this would be to render out your sequence as an uncompressed avi... and the convert that to a mpg... as for getting cleaner...it is great to use for the 30 days but after that then what?

here is a link to a mpg encoder that works awesome... and it is free!

A few thing to remember about mpgs though, the aspect ratio must be a certian dimension...can't remember what... maybe someone could help me out here. And the resoulution must be done so that both H and V resolotions are devisiable by 8.

and for the mpg encoder..it saves it with an mp1 extention.... just rename it with an mpg and it will work as all mpg works!

here is the link...

hope that this helps!

Hey nothinman
I downloaded the 28 Mb trial of cleaner and it doesn't encode
more than 15 seconds and add discreet logo to every frame.
I think I have to buy it...
And about the sorenson3:
We have to buy the codec seperatly and then use it in cleaner?
