View Full Version : Any good foot setups?
popnGEAR 08-01-2002, 03:09 AM Currently I am using the footsetup from www.characteranimation.com . It is a reverse setup but I haven't been able to figure out how to rotate the feet from side to side. Help, thanks. :(

This is jst my opinion, but I simply hate the reverse foot rig. In fact, I tend to loathe any of the older rig conventions that involve a "reverse something." There's just no need to apply that kind of mideaval approach with the apps of today. :)
I go with a modifcation of the foot roll rig covered in the Alias Character Rigging and Animation courseware. I build the same rig as they do, with the three IK chains for ankle, ball and toe all being grouped with offset pivots. Then I add separate controls for toe, ball and heel rotations of those separate groups. This provides the easy, one slider roll gizmo as well as exacting controls for each pivot.
If you need the foot to roll on it's side, placing extra pivot groups in the proper places (inside/outside of the foot extents) handles this nicely.
