View Full Version : Three jointed leg rig

Hi im creating a character with three joints in his leg I was hoping someone knew of tricks or good ways to rig a character like this. I am looking for a good way to maybe incorporate it into the Reverse Fooot setup but any ideas would be appreciated.

I've never had to do a 3 jointed leg but just thinking about your IK setup on it seems fine to me. Don't forget to put an up-vector on those IK leg bone chains.

In terms of a "3-jointed" leg--there's a better way to think of it.
Remember, a cat's or dog's leg (or most 4-legged animals for that matter) is really just like a human's. Think of a human down on all fours-- it's just that a cat or dog's bones are of different lengths than us. Here's a drawing to illustrate what I'm talking about.
Note the relationship between the joints of a standing human-- especially the FOOT-- a cat or dog's foot is really just longer than ours, plus, they walk around on their toes (ball of foot flexed)
