View Full Version : Welding Problems

Hello there,

I just started to model my first car, a ferrari enzo. I began with the front spoiler, but soon after getting some nice shaping I ran into a problem I can't fix. It is illustrated in the screenshot below.

I want to weld the vertices at the positions marked with 1 and 2. While that seems to be no problem with no. 1, the two vertices at pos. 2 won't weld, regardless of what I'm trying. But for a smooth and unified look, they just have to be welded. So what can I do to fix this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

In polygon modelling, an edge can only belong to two faces, so it won't allow you to weld those verts, as that would mean the edge was shared by three faces. You'll have to delete the bottom face so you're welding to an open edge. Eventually you'll need some thickness to the shape on the top right, or you'll end up capping the currently empty hole, so removing that polygon won't be a problem.

This is one of the things that causes confusion a lot when you start using polygon modelling, but it forces you to use a cleaner modelling technique.

Thank you very much - removing the polygon did work. I knew it was something easy... :D
