View Full Version : Text in 3D Studio Max
Xilica 07-31-2002, 05:28 PM In order to create text I have gone to the Create panel and clicked on the Shapes sub-panel. I have then clicked on the Text button. The only problem is when I choose the font I want from the drop down lists there are none. The only font I get is the default font Ariel. I also cannot type text in the Text Box. Does anyone know what is wrong? Do I have to set a parameter in order to do this or what? Thanks.

are the fonts u want to use in your fonts folder, under your OS folder (i.e. /windows)?
are your choosing fonts with your mouse? or scrolling by hitting the down arrow?
does arial appear once? or many times?
not being able to type int he text box is baffeling...

All my fonts are in the appropriate folder under the correct OS (Windows). I hit the down arrow and no fonts appear. The only one I am able to choose from is Ariel which is the default selected one. When I click in the text box I can't type in it. Do I have to double click or hit an option?

don't know if it'll work, but you could try editing your 3dsmax.ini font path to point to your windows font directory.

Thanks. I'll give it a go a little bit later.

What types of fonts are you trying to use? True Type or PostScript? I'm pretty sure 3ds max only accepts True Type.

I am trying to use True Type fonts such as Tacoma and Verdana.

Your other fonts are there, just way down:
Here is a solution:

Hey thanks for the help everyone. It was cdinic's posts about correct font folder. I was looking at all the folders in the 3ds max 4 folder and noticed a folder named "fonts". I opened the folder and found that it was blank. Then I copy and pasted all the fonts from the Windows directory folder named "fonts" to the 3ds max 4's folder named "fonts". Thanks again.
