this is the head i modelled, its an autoportrait for which i used a few reference photos and a mirror at later stages. Bought a tablet somewhere in the middle, thats when i painted the one with the helmet but gave up on it. Now i want to start again since i have a lot of spare time, and i hope that you guys will help me out.

In max. i've applied a cylndrical uvw map, an uvw unwrap before the syymetry modifier, closed the eyelid, moved the nose and lips uvs a bit, then applied another unwrap after the symmetry, mirroed one half, welded the middle and moved the nostril and mouth uvs from the main part. Now ill try painting by using the clonestamp tool and reference photos at most but im not very good with ps.

So for starters, how does the unwrap look like?

Unwrap looks ok, tough to judge though without seeing a grid pattern applied to the model. Not good to put a singularity at the top of the head, better to add a couple seams by planar-mapping the top and stitching it to the forehead, like Chris Kniffen has done in his tutorial...

(oops site appears to be down right now)

For skin painting, try this popular tutorial
