I have never done a poly model, or a low poly model or even unwrapped a model for texturing...
but here goes nothing.

I decided to take a different approach than someone with guns and or armor, but a native indian instead.

wish me luck..here is an early sketch.

well...havent had much time to work on it with school and everything..

here is the most recent update..sketch of body and updates to come..
any critiques??

Good start, but I think you used the whole polybudget on the head, I think you need to optimize alot. Try using about 1000 triangles for the head, and save about 2500 for the body and props.

Try to look at the basic shape you need to make, and try to figure out how to build it with as few poly;s as possible. Good luck!

For what sounds like a first attempt at modeling it doesnt look too bad. A few things that caught my eye. Rats' eyes are more on the side of their head. Unless you are making a high poly model for normal maps, it looks like you have about 2/3 of the poly limit in the head :D. Looks like you are sticking to your concept well. Keep it up!
