View Full Version : masking layer effects
Symbiont2 07-26-2004, 07:50 PM i have beveled text, the layer under it has an elephant. the elephant's ear is supposed to cover part of a letter. if i apply a mask to the text, it bevels around the mask shape, which i dont want. is there a way to unlink masks from effects? right now im resorting to copying the ear shape and pasting it in a new layer above the text, but id like to know if it can be done another way.

tried putting it into a layer set and applying a mask to the layer set?
You can get round this with layer style properties>Blending Options>Advanced Blending Group. Now tick the box that says Layer Mask Hides Effects. :)

Ah thanks, both of those methods worked perfectly. I knew it could be done, i just forgot where the option was. shouldve known to check advanced blending options first.
