ello dudes and dudesses

This is what I’ve spent a lot of time on in the last 3 weeks, It all started off with the robots discovering the skeleton image, and then I thought it would be interesting to do a animation short about that.
Its got a lot of problems with it, and technically it really shouldn't really be called a animation, as there is no character animation in it at all. Also no motion blur :(

The Ident at the start has motion blur but that’s it.

It was really a test to see what I could achieve in three weeks, and if I could do a fully textured fully coloured piece, now that I have my own library of 3d objects / props / scenes that ive built up over the space of a year, its a lot faster to do this type of thing now that I have that.

The piece is essentially a music video, again something I’d love to get into. I’d hire a small team if I had the money, I urgently need a character animator and rigger. But I would want to pay them.

Everything here is created by me, all but the skeleton, skeleton is poser 5.

coments and crits very very welcome,

Looks good so far!

It need some sound at the beginning; "space sounds".

I'm not sure I understand the whole thing, but what are those "radio voices" if we see only robots?

I LOVE Mozart's Requiem!!!

very very nice...enjoyed it alot...well done bud.

(crits is you want em...dunno.
planet shot early on...albedo part looks a little to glow like...BUT livable...and i'd like some shockwave to the planet blowing up...even execessive camera shake to knock it of view entirely.
top shot of truck..has some flickering on it
the early fly through part...from space to warehouse type place...would like editing broken up slightly for more drama...eg...nice smooth flowing in shots you've got...but every now and again...a quick burst flash of action/drama...then smooth flowing again...giving viewer pause for thought...just an idea though.
i really love the look of it all though...fantastic stuff...and that facility with the pump/piston like things rising up and down..v stylised...)

anyways...good work bud.

some nice camera work in there  ......not to sure about the initial shot approaching the planet though, just looks a little bit too static to me to start with and then the cut is very abrupt, you had another view of the planet a bit further just before it cuts to a shot with the truck on which I feel worked better, although there I aslo find the cut a bit abrupt
Overall really nice work though, most impressed :applause:

Great atmospherics but the piece
would be more dynamic if it had some actual
character animation.
right now it just seems like camera pans and dives
over mostly static models

great start though

Thanks there, yep the radio conversation is meant to be a sort of a radio from a long time ago of humans.

Thanks dude, glad you like it. : o) yeah a shockwave would be good, that truck flickering prob i don’t know what it is...I’ll have to change the texture or scale it up or down I think. I know what you mean about the long take, it gets a bit like a very slow moving still once the cameras over the hill. or you talking about the very start?...a bit like A L I E N 3......hehe...o by the way A L I E N S is on tonight, hope its the one with the 20mins of extra.....that sounds terrible i should have that on bought DVD...

flyingP

Thanks man : o) yep i agree with you on abrupt cuts I must admit dude, i’ll drink to that. Im not happy witht eh cut from the close up of the robot inside the control room to the top down view of the truck.

anobrin

Thanks there, I agree 100% with you there on that, its more of a animatic at the moment than animation. I really need to get into proper rigging of the robots.

i meant the beginning bud..
i mean the period of time from the camera starting off from space...and gradually it is moving down and down on the planet surface and then ends up inside some building or other...that whole period is quite long and the music is gradually building with the slow camera movement downwards...i just thought kinda flashback like...eg a couple of long slow camera movement shots...then a very rapid flash of action....then back to slow moving downwards camera movements again...kinda hard to describe what i'm on about i guess...but ideally it would build the dramatic feel to it...making it more flash horror style though which you might not want.
either way i enjoyed it as it is...would like a bit more movement to the robots...this could work with what i was talking about earlier...making the robots movement more aggressive...but it would change it quite a bit..as at the moment the viewer is left in doubt as to whether the robots are good or bad...which is quite nice really.

yep, one of my main goals with my animations, is for me to bring back the long take...somthing which is both...some people love some people dont like at all...BUT... I'm all for fast short takes if and when they heighten a scene ie a car chase....BUT...i'd have to see it first, in order to say weither I liked it or not...I dont wnat to shoot somthing down I havn't tryed or seen yet...that wouldn't be right at all...I'm 100% sure the beginning of Alien 3 has a very simalar thing to what your taking about...which is on channel 5 at some point....will know at 00:45 tomorrow when they say.

thanks for the crit though dude. it gets down to time manegement over here, and i have to do this comic book / graphic novel thing next. i wish the days were longer...and i didn't have to sleep!

a bit like A L I E N 3......hehe...o by the way A L I E N S is on tonight
I immediately thought of a cross between Aliens and Contact ... love the work - especially the lack of "space sound" as someone wrote...
I have to say - it's shorts like these that really get me motivated to continue learning and create things.

I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. You did a very good job of establishing mood and setting. Lighting and color theme are also top-notch. Although I liked the gradual approach to the planet's surface the camera sweep became a bit too repetitious after a while. Great job!

I really loved it! The music fit perfectly for me and you conveyed the vastness of space as well as including tragedy. A wonderful piece...I only wish I could do that. :-)
