Hi...I have been learning 3d/maya for abt 2 months now...this is my first shot at modelling a character...I have just modelled the head with polys and smoothed it...plz refer any of the links below for the pic..

I cudnt model it well and there r a few spots which I know I have messed up for sure (for eg: the forehead, area around the ear)...mostly I was trying to keep up with the edge loop and 4 sided polys theory.

Here are things I really want to know from u guys...besides ofcourse any other opinions/advice u can come up with....

1) Do u think the model is good enuff to be animated (in terms of edge-loops/mesh continuity)
2) Areas on the mesh which need improvement/care?
3) How wud the number of iterations while smoothing affect the texturing/rigging of a face like this one?

One last Question..not directly related to the model....I have been rummaging the cgtalk modelling forum for some info abt ....
" What r the pros and cons of Nurbs, Sub-d and Poly modelling while animating organic models?"
I cudnt find any direct answer to this...though nurbs/subd/polys are slowly getting sorted out after going thru the forum...:)
Thanx for reading this and be liberal with ur advice/opinions...I need all the help I can get...:)

you could just copy and paste the links... it works that way

as far as the edgeloops and stuff... i dunno. never animated a face but some parts look strange (center of brow and ear area)

those triangles look strange

I did a quick paintover for you. This is just to give you a general idea, not exactly how the mesh should be. I also painted in a good way to end loops and have 4 sided polys. I try to avoid ending loops in areas that will have a lot of deformations, like you had in your forehead, so I ended it a bit higher. I would also consider changing the edge flow around the mouth so you could easily create the crease under the cheek bone when a humanoid smiles. Good luck.
