View Full Version : my first image
GenConfusion 07-31-2002, 01:53 AM just to introduce myself... (it's an older image, but I can't really show my new work right now due to NDA's)
this image is done and printed, so I'm not looking for crits and commentary, but of course any input is more than welcomed.. I just merely want to say hi to everyone here. And add that I hope to post as frequent as I can..

Heheheh ... is he playing a game of "got yer nose"? Looks good. I like the attention to detail you have going on in the background. The mad scientist's face looks really creepy ... but I guess that's ok since ... well ... he is mad afterall. :surprised
Welcome to the forum.

I agree, the detail in the background which most people just passover, is really great.
I also just love the detail in the hand
Once more, great job!

That pic haunts me, his face is so freaky!!!

Kirt - exactly.... LOL you got it dude, that's cool. when I first posted this awhile back in otehr forums, I premised the thread with that title "Whoose got yer nose!" thinking people may not get the joke... I'm glad you did
Blake Kehler - thanks, I guess that's my self portrait, sort of, it's my hand, and the hardest part of doing it was.. I use the mouse with my right hand, and since that is my hand, I had to pose it, remember what I saw, then draw it... pose it, remember it, draw it, again and again... tedious, but I didn't want to rely on a photo, so I could really force myself into understanding the hand as opposed to just copying it
jeroentje - thanks, I appreciate it, and I will try posting as much as I can, and thanks for the site compliment, now I hope I can find some consistent work with it ;), I recently was canned from a job I held for 3 years, (for budgetary reasons) so now I'm trying my hand at freelancing, until I fnd that good staff position knocking on my door (fingers crossed)
Sangotten - cool I wantd the face to be kind of unsettling, since the hand is from a baby Frankenstein, I wanted something disturbing to contradict the, well if you can cal it this, "cuteness" of a baby monster LOL
little5points - yes, I do, met him when I was in school, very cool guy.... and probably some of his influence is in this... but, I didn't intend it that way, I figure the facial distortion comes from me wanting to instill a sense of "in your face" (no pun intended) look to it, as if we were the baby and looking through it's eyes... and the distortion sort of took on a Frederickson feel to it, along with the fact that I wanted to render realisitically, a cartoon featured character... but I figure that's a compliment, since Marks stuff is pretty cool, thanks for the comment

Woo hoooo, Nailed this one. Very nice. "Whoose got yer nose!" the 1st time I played that with my son when he was about 1.5yrs he cried; thought it really was his nose I had...We still LOL. Great work, yes I see Frederickson and others but I'm sure he wasn't the first to do this kinda view, just the 1st to make a bunch dough doin it. You do great work, I recognize your name/art from lurking in other places. Come back often. We need more 2d here.
Freelacing is a great life... (sometimes) The commute is good. Ride the rollercoaster! Good luck.

Oh Man! It is impressive! You really raised standart of 2D here on CGtalk ...
Backround of pic is simply great, did you help yourself with some 3d? I like the composition too and of course the color set. But what I like least are hands, sorry.
Anyway, this pic indicates a huge dose of patience and consistency, detail is awesome. I appreciate it.

GenConfusion: ah, ok. Didn't mean to imply anything as him being an influence or anything. I was just going to suggest looking at his stuff if you haven't heard of him.
Your style is totally different but the sharp detail and the secondary lighting remind me of Fredrickson.
do you have any other works in this style?
