:) hey guys

Thanks a lot for your loving posts :D , very nice from you all.
I'm very glad you enjoy. I worked the character design with my friend jordane and he made finally this last board that I find nice...
actully, it was a real pleasure to work on it.

hehe! yes it's a worm.

The rendering was so long sometimes, we must have gone to a geology lab to render some scenes.

Short 'n' sweet :) Overall very nice feel and cute characters, I think the sounds used for their "voices" was just right. Nice backdrop and environment, kinda reminded me of Yoshi's Story with the cutout-like objects and all. Great colours and good animation

Awesome job, although when there both running for the worm it seems a bit jumpy. But still excellent, the facial expressions and animations are absolutely perfect, they show what their thinking very well with their face.

But if ya don't mind me asking, what technique did you use for the facial animation?

Try that, it's a free, open-source port of a linux media player that will play pretty much any .avi or video file dealing with divx and xvid.

:) Hi guys

Thank you again for your posts and answers.
For the background :D I probably too much played to mario bros when I was young...
I'm pretty sure that a lot of others old children TV animations inspired me too.

Well, I think its right for the first scene, it was really hard to animate and we didn't have the time to do a better job for this one. I guess the animation is not perfect at all on the whole short...still many things to work, but its done.:)

the codec of the short is DIVX 5.0 and if you don't get the file in 5 minutes with a high connection, there is probably a trouble, I couldn't make anything for this.

ry-goody --> the technique for facial animation is only a blend shapes work with maya.
All differents shapes with different moods for each part of the face have been
made before the animation. I'll try to post some screenshots with the maya
scene.

guerninon -> so whats up! I give you the crowbar for 10 bucks man :) thanks renderman

Excellent. Nice, vibrant, colour scheme and lighting. Some great animation and character design.

Would have been nice to have seen some secondary animation on the females hair.

Eye's reminded me of Pixars short film 'For The Birds'. Influenced by them by any chance?

hi!

andy (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=53784) whiteley > sure, eyes from "for the birds" have a very good way to be easy and expressive. It could be a mistake not to be influenced for this project:) I guess.
Furthermore, look at the animation better, you 'll be able to see that the animation of the female's hair is here  .Maybe, we could make it more visible but I think it was not useful here.
I didn't want the hair could become too smooth. And I can say its a f... awful Shit to use a giggle in maya WITH mental ray...you can't imagine:scream: thanks for the crits. :)

It was the first time I use mental Ray for the renderer and I passed a lot of time to understand well (2 weeks)the way to get a beautiful light. GI is so different than a simply lighting.
Its easy enough to have a good render, the more difficult is to reduce the time of rendering which could be horrible

vis (http://www.cgtalk.com/member.php?u=20936) > the renderer is MENTAL RAY :) and there are lights for each eye for the specular which follow the eyes. a skylight for the Global illumination (final gathering only) and a spotlight to simulate the sunlight. And if I remember, a back light maybe but not sure, I guess the sky was sufficient. What is important is to have a perfect color sky first.

thanks for your interest all. go on I will put screenshots for more details

Well done, great characters and animation.

Color scheme and lighting are top notch. Keep it up!

doude

:) so, here more details from the prod.

about the facial animation: each facial expression is made before the animation. In this way, its important to know exactly (before doing this), which expression you need for the production.

http://yves.dalbiez.free.fr/postforum/blends2.jpg

about the lighting on the background (with GI in mental Ray) in green, the spotlight to have a direct light (simulate the sun). THe Skydome have the color of the sky, a blue for the indirect light.

http://yves.dalbiez.free.fr/postforum/lightingTest2.jpg

About the rendering with mental ray, here two tests on the male. The first is only with the light of the skydome, the second with the spotlight and the sky.
Hope you'll appreciate these screenshots.:)
