Seven 07-23-2004, 04:06 PM This was an exercise to teach me how to light outdoor enviroments correctly. I have learnt a huge amount from this project and cant wait to take what ive learnt onto new things.

No replys :(
Anyway, from looking at this image for a while now its obvious to me its not perfect and needs fine tuning. Its to perfect infact. I think the lighting is fine, the modeling needs improving and adding upon.
For example, I need random imperfect bricks, the odd rock lieing around. Dirt at the bottom of the pipe. That front pot just doesnt look right. Redo the plants with leafs lieing on the ground.
What do you think I should do. Really finish this or take what ive learnt knowing its got imperfections and move onto another environment? I did this to teach myself lighting. Im just starting my final year project and need a few really well made outdoor areas.
I cant decide :)

Nice work Seven !
I don't understand why nobody answers yet... I think you should finish this pic, good basis... Don't give up ! I think before add dirt, the firt thing you should do is correct this too regular bricks wall, it will boost your picture... You can smooth a little bit your sun shadows too...

I like this so keep going with it, Seven. I think RealityDistortion is given you some good points to work on. I feel also that the bricks too flat, the mortar appears to be on the same plane has the bricks but it should sit back alittle into the wall. It will add some depth to the image. Perhaps the lighting is alittle too strong too and perhaps add a tint of yellow if you haven't done already and give your shadows a very dark blue tint. Then think about adding dirt, just too clean at the moment.
Sorry if it's appears that I've ripped your work apart but I work in the architectural field myself and use these pointers when working on images. I look forward to seeing more. Keep it up!!!

I think the bricks are the weakest part of this image. If your trying for a photographic look then find a good brick photograph to use. Yes the lighting is pretty good, but the little things are getting in the way. Good luck!

Thanks for the replys and vote of confidence. I will finish it :)
Crits like yours Zanmato are exactly what I need, rip it apart! only way it will improve. I see a pattern forming about whats not correct in the render, ill definatly work on the bricks. I did use photo reference for the bricks but ill definatly touch it up.
Cheers guys, update tomorrow hopefully.

Cool start Seven, but like you menioned already yourself, texturing can really spice up this image, in a way you won't believe it's the same model if you see it afterwards. Lightening might be a little synthetic if you go for realism. In fact I'm only recapitulating the other viewer's remarks ;) But it means it has potential, go man, go ! ;)
