Good Afternoon all,
Having a bear of a time getting Max 6 to cast shadows when vert lighting. I've used both the Utility Assign tool and the one directly from the Modifier list (same thing as I can tell) and while I can always get lit or unlit vertex colors, vertices that should be within an objects shadow never light dark. It's as if I'm lighting without shadows turned on, however every checkbox I can find on the light, in the Paint utility, in the rendering options, everywhere, I have shadows checked on. I've tried with and without shadow maps, raycasting/advanced ray casting, area shadows....zip on all accounts. Same goes for using radiosity. Whenever I apply radiosity to a scene and tell it to display I get fairly accurate lighting in the viewport and it renders well (Default scanline...Is it even possible to use mental ray radiosity to vert light?) but when I hit Assign in the Vertex Paint or Utility menu, I get completely different colors, often with the main light source appearing to have shifted 90 degrees clockwise, and again, no cast shadows on vertices. I've looked everywhere for a tutorial and have combed the books that come with Max, but nothing. I know I've asked a lot of questions all wrapped up as one...Any help you gurus can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
