View Full Version : Fastest method to mask a hand & mixer sliders?

I need to mask a hand and audio sliders (from a mixer) to have them reveal a logo as they are moved. I've been working with a combination of vector paint (though I can't seem to wrap my head around all the functons of the tool) and pen-tool vector masks.

This is working OK but obviously takes a very long timee when working frame by frame. This is a class assignment (where once again i have chosen to do something crazy-hard) that we have less than a week to do.

There's got to be a faster way to acomplish this...though no one around here seems to know how. Is there anyone with some motion tracking skills who could shed some light on this for me? I can get it done w/ frame by frame roto but its certainly not the way I'd like to spend my entire week/weekend. :banghead:

Suggestions?

I also have access to combustion3 (though I'm pretty much a complete noob, since they don't teach it here). I hear its better at such things...but again, no one seems to be able to show me how  Funny school...

Well, unless you can pull a decent matte using one of the keying tools, you're pretty much stuck to the frame-by-frame action. You could try tracking a bazillion points and then constructing masks from that, but that seems even harder.

However, the simple solution here is to just do every other frame. Try using masks instead of vector paint, do every other frame (or every third frame), and then use interpolation to get the in-between frames. Alternatively, make a start and end mask, then add in-between masks only where they're needed, letting interpolation take care of the rest.

Turns out I got lucky here...I was able to pull a nearly perfect matte with a couple instanes of color range.

I did experiment with first/last/keyframing and it actually worked reasonsably well...this is how i'll start in the future if keying tools fail.

Thanks for the input. :applause:
