Hey everyone,

Here is a quick breakdown of the problem at hand:
-----------------------------------------------------
Maya Ver: Maya 5.0.1
Problem: Fatal Error
What was the user doing at the time of fatal error: Went into Edit Polys > Texture > Planner to apply a texture. When I do so it gives me a Fatal Error.
Poly count: 698 (all quads)
Texture map Size: 1024X1024
File Format: Tiff

Problem solving: I tried to reboot, import the object from a new Maya file, export it as an OBJ file and retexture map it. But every time it’s the same thing. The funny thing is this happens to every model I have been working on so far. I get really far into texture mapping and BAM it crashes. I could understand if I was working with a 1 million poly model with 10 - 2048X2048 maps. But this is a small model.

Guys I have been working on this problem for two days straight. This is starting to drive me crazy. I can’t sleep at all. This small model is part of lager scene for my portfolio. It’s getting to the point that I’m already In the process of buying a stick of 2 GB memory.

If anyone has any bit of experience or advice for this please please please help.

The last thing I can think of doing is reinstalling Maya again and spending a good hour putting back plug-in’s and fixing the interface again… weeee.

Maybe change the .tif texture to a .bmp or similar?

sent the file to a friend and the file crashed on him as well. I have never seen before in maya a object being corrupted. The rest of the obecjs in the scene are fine. This makes no sense to me at all. Any ideas?

I had this problem once, similar if nothing else. It would crash Maya 5.0.1 when a texture map was applied to the model.

Try deleting history - all of it. I hope that helps.

UPDATE:

Well it looks like the object in the sceen was bad. When I tried to render it would crash maya. I have never seen anything like this before. I knew of bad files but never bad objects. I did Inc Saves so I will have to just revert back to a older copy and work my way back up. To too much of a big deal just lost a few hours of work. always, always, always save as many copies of a file as you can as well as do Inc Saves and you will thank youself later
