well that's my first matte painting, i took a few hours on photoshop to do this! mainly used personalised brushes...

sorry for my ignorance, but this whole matte painting is new for me, what are matte paintings used for? whats the story behind them, thanks

it will be hard to explain you from part to part so i'll find a link for you! but in a few words...
matte painting is a technique used in movies to make some still backgrounds (even animated some times) using some painting, and 3d objects,and composition of photos...the goal of all this is to give the illusion that the scene in front of you is real!

there is an introduction to what matte is and more of that there are good examples in his matte gallery

i did the waterfall, the piece of water and the rock in the water,the hole in the right cliff, and the plant that is above,and the effects of the waterfall in the water...

Looks good !

About the plants in the foreground by the water. They look a little soft around the edge. Try not to feather the matte so much
