oooh!
materials are looking good - is the yellowy stuff on the edges a reflection of something or are you simulating the age of the watch by having some of the stuff peel off?
good work

Good work. Nice materials and lighting. I would suggest if it in your game plan to make the lighting a bit more contrasty, but other than that great.

nah the yellow is a reflection from the walls in the room
it is solid silver
i will be playing with the lights in the next few days
as i will with shed pic

nice watch.
but i think the yellow reflections, as realistic as they may be, are distracting to much. maybe you could desaturate the yellow, or go with another greyish colour.

Very nice work. I agree with the other comments about yellow highlights. I'd desaturate the enviro map.

:(
i thought the hint of colour was a nice touch shame i was wrong
i will change the colour of the walls now, it isnt an enviroment map but actual walls. and now they will be changed
thanks for the comments
wat about the garden wip

I like the texturing and lighting of the garden scene. If this is going to be a still I might suggest that you add some area of focus in the lower left, as the composition is a little unbalanced to the top-right.

i don't think its a bad idea to have those coloured walls. but right now their color is just to agressive, compared to the rest of your composition. they steal the atention from the watch, which deserves to be watched.. ;)

well... i'm in the mood for criticizing ;)
the modell of your garden scene looks good. however, IMO the textures look to uniform and clean.
for ex. the wood planks of the shed. try to add some dirt stains to simulate rain and exposure to sun.
the same goes for the stone floor. i would add some extra dirt where the wood shed comes down to the floor.
hope i'm not to dirty for you :)

yeah i always set up the basic textures and set the lights up
and then attack the scene with random dirt and stuff
at the mo i am making weeds to scatter around
so lets just see how it turns out
more updates on the way
while ur in crit mode look at my site
there is many there for crits

The hidden line render ofthe shed has the nicest composition and such though as MV said you need some focus in the bottom left, why are the other renders different especially the loose slat?
As for the watch definitely the yellow needs to be brought dowwn or changed its really distracting and does sorta look lik eit was meant to be aging though not very good aging.
Very nice silver though.

I thought at first that the composition had chaged, too. But it shows the importance of light. In the last image, the dark shadow on the left-hand wall of the shed shifts the whole balance of the image to the right.

and i may add that the fact that the shadow is perpendicular to the dog house makes the scene look flat compared to picture 2 and especially picture 4 (from left) where the shadow helps to hold the objects together.

well i too prefer the pulled out shadow and intend to drag it further out more leaning to the left,
lighting as pointed out here is very important as it can kill the best picture.
i have not decided if i should do a dusk render and a sunny afternoon version
but u can be assured i will do my best to make a nice pleasing pic.
another watch wip with no yellow coming up really soon

now i have got rid of the yellow the next thing i hate is the shadows i am lowering the smaples slightly so they become tighter around the base of the watch
also i might also play around with the comp of the pic as i feel i might make the camera sit slightly infront of the winder ring looking across the face plate and i know i hate c4ds dof i might try to add a bit of it.
stay tuned for more

I love the watch, great job on the image.
The one thing that I see right of the bat though is on the reflection on the cover. When you look at the reflection, you can see your polygons, you may want to subdevide or add smoothing.
Right near the center of the cover, the reflection "Steps" insted of flowing :)
Other that that, way better than I can do

The watch looks awesome. I agree with you on the shadow. Are you using an area shadow or soft?

adam i always stay away from area and always use soft shadow
i have the samples at 6 now and that is blurring them alittle too much so they are soft soft soft. i think they need to be slightly more defined around the base, which doesnt sit on the ground fully cause it is rounded, but still needs to be locked down to the sil with a darker shadow
pgp_protector: can i get away with saying that it is a dent in the lid as it maybe polished but i dented it by acciedent, does that work.
thanks for the comments ppl

the engravngs on the top piece are a little jaggy, might want to rerender witha slightly higher AA, or change the AA on the engraving bump channels. Try circular rather than mip.

No doubt area shadows are slower than hell, but this being a still--and a really nice one--I think it would be worth the wait.
