View Full Version : VET, Cult3d and Shockwave
Daniel 07-30-2002, 11:04 AM Hey Waver!
Is here somebody who work with one of that 3D Content Viewer?
I very much like Vet. But I can't get any UV Map to work :(
I tried everything. 3D Exploration...
Convert -> Vet
Convert -> OBJ
Lightwave Obj. export
UView Obj. Export
But the Objects came always WITHOUT UvMaps :(
Is there a way to Import LWO (or 3ds) into Cult3d?
Is the a way to use SWF WITHOUT Director???
Thnx...Cya.

SWF files are Flash files, not Director as far as I know. I've never heard of VET and last time I used Cult3d it was MAX only. But to me Shockwave(Director) is the way to go, there are so many possibilities with Lingo.
It sounds as if you are having problems with the obj. mtl file.
Try putting everything in the same directory and then export the obj with a seperate material file, then edit the mtl file with notepad and get rid of all the paths and make sure the names of the textures are there.
I have not used the obj exporter from the current lightwave but the old one was broken with respect to mtl files.
Another thing is all the textures have to be square ie 128x128 256x256 512x512 etc they also have to be encoded using the progressive compression (photoshop has an option for this) and any alpha and bump maps have to be exactly the same size.
Any changefrom the above will cause the problems you have seen.
there is also a free exporter for lightwave and max on the www.viewpoint.com site that publishes direct to html, but make sure you export the lighting or you get overly shiny results.
Make sure you have the latest version of scene builder too.

I recomend you download 3d explorer from www.righthemisphere.com as that has a direct exporter, where you just have to hit ok... but again the default lightmap makes things shiny. If you dont get it working with this then there is something wrong with your uv maps in whatever app (LW?) you are using

OK letz start,
1. I have 3D Exploration v1.8.
Never seen a Director export there.
2. I read about that MTL Files, but HOW to save them out from lightwave???
3. For LowPoly and UVmaps EVER use 128x128...256x256....!!!
4. The LW Exporter from Viewpoint is for v6.5 ONLY! :(
I'm already on 7.5
I try to export a MTL with 3D Exploration, may it work...
But thank U so far

The easiest way to get it on the web...
Open the lw.lwo file directly in 3dexplorer (6.5 and 7.5 use the same format).
choose file save as html and give it a name (make sure you save it in the same directory as your broadcast key and brows to your broadcast key in the box)
hit ok
you will have to take all the right hemisphere crap out of the html file if you use the default html template and it is probably a good thing to have a good look round it into get it how you like at the same time.
There are some templates at www.viewpoint.com and if you dont have a broadcast key you will have to apply for one, it takes about 2 days but is free if not for commercial puropses.

btw 128 and 256 maps are just right for web (real time) use

I tried it with a MTL file. Exporting from 3D Explo. to Obj.
BUT still, there is no texture to see in scene builder. If I load a diffuse map it looks like a Spherical Relfection Map!!!
Shit :(
TPE I'll try that...may it works
Yes I've a Key.
Oki, if it works than I will post link :)
EDIT: No, I tried saving it from 3D Exploration as "Viewpoint Media Published" But no luck with that :(
grrr, why isn't there a lw 7x exporter?!?!
Cya.
6.5 and 7.5 are the same format.
3dexplorer will read them both with no problems
you do not have to export them from lightwave in any other format
save as HTML (not any other format, forget obj, mtl mtx etc...) from 3d explorer
Do what i said in the last post, it does work, i just checked, then tried to break it and did it again both times on models i had never done it on before.
If you do it that way you dont have to do any of the mtz mtx vet export.
double click on the html and it will load the automatically created resources.
Just make sure when you put it on your web site you put all the files it makes up too.
