View Full Version : newbie needs help
Labuzz 07-30-2002, 09:49 AM hello, i am a maya user and i am trying lw at this time, tks for help:
- Can i hide an item with hotkey in layout ? ( i can't see any " echo of command " in the Lscript commander when i toggle the visibility in the scene editor )
- Can i "freeeze transform" ( 0 0 0 all transform ) the position , rotation and scale in the layout ( not only the rotation --> record pivot rotation )
- how can i go to the rest position, rest rotation ( " bind pose " in maya ) with a single clic or a hotkey with a hierarchy of bones in layout.
- how can i have a " snapshot " of a skinned mesh in layout ( copy just the mesh with no history but keep any deformation )

1, not sure, but I'm sure its scriptable
2, not possible
3, get "key rest pose" from flay.com
4, save transformed mesh

tks Mike :) ,
i am looking bones right now but it seems to be difficult to get good orientation. With edit skelegon tool and record pivot rotation i have strange things ( See the pics below )...It seems to be hard to like bones in lw....

If you're rigging a standard spreadeagle biped it's usually best to draw your skelegon hirarchy in the Back or Front viewports, that way the elbows and knees will use bone pitch to bend.
The above assumes your character is facing forward along Z.
If you need bends in the joints create them by dragging the skelegons around after drawing out in the Back/Front view.
You can adjust skelgon bone orientation by pulling the lollipop handles around, but I find it simpler to draw them in the correct viewport.

Strange... The record pivot mast solve this problem. Did u have auto key ON? If not make it ON and try again... Also rest the bone position (usually with scelegons u don't need this). I hope u do all manipulations with bones on frame 0.
Here the steps what i use in work with scelegons:
1. Convert.
2. Deactivate via Spreadsheet.
3. Make parenting (some times i need re parent some bones) using schematic view (ctrl +click that's all)
4. Record Pivot Rotation.
5. Bone activation...
And of course u need to align your scelegons in modeler using Edit Scelegons.
Some time if i change the rest length of bone i use Record Rest Position ("r") and i have always Auto Key ON...
This steps ALWAYS work for me...
Hope this can help u.
