Hi Everyone,

Here's a render of a watch I've been working on. Not to fancy like some of the renders here, but I working towards that. I would appreciate some C&C's. It's finished for the most part, unless someone could give me a good method of how to make it more realistic.

It was modeled in Rhino and rendered in Maya/mental ray.

Thanks,

O|D

well the watch is obviously metallic, and reflective, so the first thing to do is give it something to reflect. you seem to have a woodgrain floor for it, which is something, and i'm not sure what hdri map you're using, but perhaps a different one would help? also the "floor" seems to be wet, was this intentional? it's far too glossy if it isn't.

The modeling is good but you could use some better lighting and texturing. It needs and enviroment and the led should be give of light be luminous evn slightly because it just looks better and shows of the watch. What softs?

BurningSensation: Thanks for the comments. Yeah it's metal. I was trying to get a dull finish surface like you see on most digital cameras now and days. I would prefer to get more of a brushed metal look, but I can't seem to get it right. Any ideas? I'm using maya/mental ray as a renderer.

The wood grain floor look was intentional. I have a table with too much clear cloating applied and the look is similar to what is in my pic. I'll back off its thinkness a little.

BESTrin: I'm not using any lights other than an hdri map. I'll work on my shaders some more and try to improve them. I'm using maya/mental ray as my renderer and rhino as modeler.

Thanks.

I dont have a prob with the table. for a brushed steel (and i dont know maya) the affect is anisotrophy so look into that. I understand that your using hdri but its not working. Are you sure you ahve all the settings right. Do you know what light probe you using. Something in the lighting and in the reflection is just not right i would look into it. hdri is great for somethings but here it doesnt seem to be working. I cant realy get to app specific since i have only briefly used maya ple and have no real knowledge of maya but it doesnt look right in the light and reflection. Maybe try a diferent hdri.
