Anatomically incorrect, unnecessary marble breaks, face too flat...take a look at Bammes Human Anatomy, u might learn something. My critiques are harsh, because my dad is a famous sculptor and he was always relentless when criticising my work. For that i've always been greatful.

I don't think endi2 is studying to be a famous sculptor.... geez....

i know he isn't...but if ure going to model a head, u can either make it good or u can make it bad...thats all there is to it. I consider the above model, average...although i know if the guy looked at anatomy a bit more, the model would be much better. Besides, there's not a lot of diference between sculptors and 3D organic modelers. The basic principles are all the same. We us 3D mesh wire, but so do sculptors, except their wire is metal. We use polys, they use clay or marble, in which case they dont use wire like us, but build from basic shapes...a bit like box modelling and so on.
Looks great.
Kind of washy feeling to it.
one more thing, the support structure to support the 'head' looks too small.
looks like it would fall over if his head was a little bigger.
maybe you can make the support structure a little more 'heavier' to make it look like it can support the 'head'

its a nice material and render, but the model is not good. it doesn't look like a roman sculpture at all.

WOAH wait there a minute ... this person is looking for constructive critism, not just slanting him off like that ... i personaly think thats really rude.
Anyway, try reducing the glow amount.

I agree, being harsh is one thing, but come on. I think you've got a good start. Try a new model and reference some pics. you will get the hang of it and will impress all famous sculptors including his dad.

Then why even waste your time typing up such a useless and rude reply?
Endi, I think this is a good concept, lighting, texturing, and to me the model is decent. The glow is a little much, but can be toned down easily. Keep up the good work and don't listen to trolls.

There's a couple of things that aren't quite right in this picture for me.
The break at the end of the nose looks a little too regular to me. I would have preferred an irregular break that took off more his nose.
The broken off ear looks very strange to me. It looks like chewed off flesh rather than broken off marble.
One of the other criticisms in this thread that I also very much agreed with is that the stand is too small for this head. It should probably be larger for stability. However, I have seen this picture over at Elysiun previously and this didn't occur to me before.
I actually like the modelling of the head though. He looks slightly deformed - his flat and droopy top lip I love.

Caleb

hey endie, sorry about the post... my friend was being a dickhead and posted using my username.
as far as critisism goes, i'm afraid i'll have to agree with it being a bit flat... there's a point that there are people out there with flat faces, but this is after all a "roman sculpture" right? perhaps looking at classical anatomy references of the head and looking at roman sculptures a bit more may help...
again, i apolagize on behalf of my idiot friend who posted the rude remark.

I really like it :)
The lightning is good, maybe a bit too much glow, but overall it creates a really nice atmosphere. The same with textures. As for the model, I disagree with it being "anatomically incorrect", etc. Except for maybe a couple of small things that really are incorrect, overall it looks like people you can see when you're walking through town. Not everybody's got the perfect face. On the other hand, roman sculptors did try to make their emperors look better then they really did, as close to perfect as possible. My suggestion would be to take some anatomy books and change the vertex positions instead of remodelling. This way, it'll still have those imperfections, while also going closer to the looks that one with a godlike roman status should have.
