We have to register? :(

Edit and quote Halo 2 Ad Budget Supports Movie Trailer
While many gamemakers and publishers are releasing less-than-satisfying quarterly financial results this month, Microsoft Game Studios instead announced a large-scale advertising campaign for its next blockbuster hopeful, Halo 2 for Xbox.

Microsoft Game Studios and Bungie Studios hired cinematic trailer creators The Ant Farm to make a film trailer for Halo 2, which is due out November 9. About 1,500 movie theaters have agreed to air the game’s ad this summer.-Jill Duffy

Halo 2 trailer to invade cinemas

http://www.gamespot.com/b.gif
To help heighten the building frenzy around Bungie's Xbox shooter sequel, Microsoft is attaching a preview to major summer blockbusters.

Last month, the Halo 2 hype machine started off slow, with teaser ads in print magazines. "They don't want to destroy our planet," read the copy on the first page, "just mankind." The second page featured the now-iconic Halo 2 logo, with the tagline, "On November 9th, Earth will never be the same."

Now Microsoft is stepping things up a notch. Starting today, a Halo 2 trailer will be unspooling in movie theaters nationwide. Though limited to 1,500 Loews Cineplex Entertainment cinemas, the trailer will be attached in front of some of the summer's highest-profile releases. Spider-Man 2, The Village, King Arthur, Catwoman, Alien vs. Predator, and I, Robot will all be preceded by a brief snippet of Master Chief vs. Covenant action in said selected theaters.

The cinematic Halo 2 trailer was created by The Ant Farm, the well-regarded Hollywood chop shop that created previews for The Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man 2, Shrek, Kill Bill, and the Harry Potter series.

If you're not going to be near a theater anytime soon, you can check out a dropshipful of trailers, real-time demos, gameplay footage, and developer interviews on the Halo 2 movies page (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox/action/halo2/media.html).

I think a copy/paste of the article would've been very helpful if the gamasutra site doesn't have the actual trailer available or download. But that said, I've got to agree and say, if you're looking to get into video games, you want gamasutra on your bookmarks. then again, a copy/paste of the article could've been a whirlwind way to help spread gamasutra's reliablity as a gaming industry watchers resource. *hint, hint*

As for the trailer, summer sun and work keeps me out of theatres this time of year. Who wants to be in a cold dark theatre after waiting a good part of the year for the summer fun. By the time I'm interested in going to theatres again, the Halo 2 game will be a few days/weeks from hitting the store shelves, so why stress it now.

Well, they show movies at night too...when it's also cool and dark outside ;P

There's a shaky cam version of the trailer on the net now.

Bentllama, any chance of people who don't go to a Loews theaters seeing this trailer (officially) before the game comes out (or even when the game comes out) online?

If you saw the end of last year's E3 presentation and footage of this years live action, you've pretty much seen the trailer. The only new part (to me) is the nice footage of the MC crouching while Covenant fly over head (image seen on poster at E3). It is all cut typical attention deficit disorder/Mtv/ movie premier rapid-fire style.

Those you you who have seen the trailer. Did any of you notice that at the end, where it says www.xbox.com, it changes to www.ilovebees.com for a split second? I went there and it's very unusual. Reminds me of the old A.I internet mystery thing that went on before that movie was released. If you haven't seen the trailer, you can check it out here:

exploring the ilovebees.com site is pretty interesting, I'm not so well versed in bungie lore [though I've been playing since Pathways into Darkness!] but the site is subtly creepy, and hidden in the source code of a lot of the pages are some strange things...

wasn't the A.I. game, the beast, run from microsoft games? might this be the same people, same thing on a smaller scale?

I'm so excited for halo2, I've already got mine pre ordered, and apparently we can pick them up at midnight. there's going to be a lot of people calling in sick nov 9th.

@ mycodesoft - that was hilarious.

well after watching it twice it hyped me :D. I downloaded the very High reZ version from ign, November 9th needs to be sooner. I tried to print screen the trailer for some very sweet wallpaper, but dicovered that you cannot do that with media player :(, good thing after effects can view it ;).

Oh, on the Bungie website, they posted life as a game tester, with a link at the bottom for employment! shame im not in WA. I'd love to test it;) http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?story=workbungietest&p=334939

[warning, spoilers...]

i think its kinda cool when a company goes and does something extra like this. anyways, the date August 24 comes up, exactly 77 days before the Nov 9th release date. with halo 2 going to have a playable demo at PAX on August 29th, i think i smell Halo 2 Demo!!! bundle that with another game [remember how many people bought Zone Of Enders just for the MGS2 demo?].
