I am very interested in Cinema4D (coming from LightWave). I am on a PC now, but may be on Mac before the end of the year. Could someone explain how the multi-platform license works?
Thanks :)

currently the discs are multiplatform installs, but the serial #'s are platform specific. So in other words a single-seat license is for only one platform.

Oh hey...just noticed you're in Memphis! We're practically neighbors.

I have a lot of family in Memphis, but my wife and I are in Nashville.

Thanks 3dg!
Yeah! small world :) My wife and I have thought about moving to Nashville more than once. Seems to be a lot more work there.

I noticed Policarpo mentioned something about this multi-platform license as a benefit. I wonder if you switched Platforms if maybe there is a way to transfer the license or something?

Thanks again for the quick response

You can transfer the license for a small fee -- used to be like $100 but i think now it is a percentage of the bundle price. So for me it was a bit more...(I have studio bundle plus Net unlimited)

We should definitely try to hook up if you're ever in Nashville, or I'm ever in Memphis :)

Well since we are on this subject - I know this has probably been answered before, but I can't remember the result! - what about Net Render? - I mean, there is no guarantee that even a small network of 3 machines (as granted by the XL license) will be the same platform, in fact it makes sense if they aren't to get the best of both, but surely one doesn't have to by the other platform version of Net to get this working?

Hey Kromekat!

Net license is multiplatform for render clients, and although it is supposed to be single platform for the server, i think the serial #'s are actually cross platform. (At least mine works that way) Shhh....don't tell :)

Thanks for the additional info 3dg!

Just let me know when you are going to be in town! I'm sure you would also like to meet with the guy who is responsible for my interest in Cinema as well!

Take care! and Thanks again :)

Please ignore Gary,

He actually lives in a ditch in Omaha, Nebraska.
He has a 1988 Macintosh that he has hijacked to a phone pole.
He lives off of dead squirrels and discarded shoe soles.
He is vermin of the worst kind.

I live in Nashville, too. Gary and I hang out when he isn't to busy kickin' ass at the local Kareoke bar.

Ah cool! - that's what I hoped to hear - not that I have the cash for one of those Alienware Xeon boxes as well as a new G5, but it's good to know that I could add one at a later date! :)
