Modelling this based off of reference from this thread:
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=151838
I asked in the thread if it was OK to model her, but never got a response. So here she is so far. Would appreciate any comments her to this point.
THanks for looking. :D

Very nice start BgDM. I think the head piece's horns or whatever are too symmetrical..maybe change some of the folds so they are not the exact same on both sides...just my personal opinion.

Wow, is that fabric geometry did you simulate and turn to mesh or is that modeled? Thats good work man. So she's going to be a naked witch?
Cirts:
The shoulders lack some diffinition as do the biceps and forearms... I assuming you actually aren't finished with those.
The breasts are well done but the abs and rib cage diffinitions aren't there yet... I'm assuming your not done with that either :p
Again, great work on the head. :bounce:
thats a freakin awesome design. You should have fun modeling her.
The cloth wrapping on the helmet horns looks more like slightly wrinkled tin plates atm. You might consider softening and rounding them out, so that the wrapping follows more closely the contours of whatever is beneath it.
The breasts could also use some more definition atm. They are just floating there and lack a natural shape.
Now finish it!
oh, are you going ot make the demons to?
Wow! Thanks for the positive comments guys. I appreciate it.

It is modelled. Started with an 8 vert circle mesh and then extrude, scale, extrude, etc. Then I did a fractal subdivide of the mesh and converted to sub-d's.
she's going to be a naked witch?Well, her torso will be naked. See the reference image I posted the link to.
And I will be adding some definition to the arms as a next step.

I see whatyou mean about the wrapping. I will smooth that out as you suggest. I thought the breasts were actually pretty good. I don't want huge, typical CG breasts on her. I thought the size and shape was looking good. Can you be more specific?
oh, are you going ot make the demons to?The demons are being done by anothe fellow Blender user names slikdigit, (aka bassaminator here at CG Talk). You can check his progress on them over at the Blender forums here: http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27031
We will be combining the witch and the demons in the final render.
Again, thanks for all the nice feedback guys.

Update. Not much added.
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/bgdm/witch_008.jpg
Playing with a texture for the belly plate. I think I like this one. Not sure about the shape of it yet, but I like the nastiness of the texture. I need to redo the wrap around her waist. Looks like absolute crap.
I have modified the arms a bit. I think they look better now. Still need to tweak the hands some. That will be next, as all that is left is a lot of fabric and little details.

Will be looking out for the progress.

Looking great - however, have you asked the original concept artist for permission to model it?
He might take offence to you making one of his copyrighted designs
EDIT - ignore that - i actually read the text and noticed that you already asked!
Sorry!
Keep at it - its lookin topper

cool work :)
Thanks for all the positive replies everyone.
lula_assassina: You are too kind. Thank you.
sonix: Hey man! I almost forgot you hang around here too. Thanks for the comment. I'll have to check in on your car progress.
Tu_Vieja: The sheild is textured. That is a little too much detail for me to model. :D I tried it as a displacement map at first, but it didn't look as good.
Andy H: Thanks for the kind reply. I really like your work and it is really inspiring for me to hear from you. As for the request about using the image as a ref, as I said, I did ask in the guys thread, but I never heard anything back as to yes or no. I hope that it won't be a problem.
5awamura: Thanks. Well, I use Blender for my modelling and rendering, so what you see is basic shader in Blender right now. No shader adjstments at all as of yet. Except on the sheild, which has a slight colour change. I have done some colour adjustment in Photoshop to reduce some saturation, but that is all that I have done for now.
pearl3d: Thanks!
Again, thanks for all the nice comments. Keeps me motivated to finish her.

is this your own design? I mean, I love the style... gawd, its inspiring; I love weird/sci-fi/freaky characters/creatures, its just so much fun to model them (and to design them)
keep up the good work. its modeled superbly, I would change some of the design aspects, but regardless, it was executed with skill.
keep us posted
Cheers

Another Update:
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/bgdm/witch_009.jpg
I need to tweak the skirt placement some and some verts on the skirt to get it fitting and flowing better. But I think the basic shape is good.
Almost done with modelling now. Just the cape and the small detail stuff left.
shadowdragon: Thanks man. Glad to see you over here too.
Gremlin: Not my design. I am using a ref image from the 2D forum here. See the link in the first post. Thanks for the comment too.

Anything look odd to you all?Apart from the fact that shes a topless witch with a mask and horns? No.
It looks fecking great so far - really nice cloth modeling and the shield looks great. Keep it coming!
What are you aiming for in the end? an animation? or a 3d version of the pic its based on?

looks to me like her shoulders/armpit are off. the shoulders seem too wide? in the reference the breasts don't go straight up like that. bring in the shoulders and reshape the tendons underneath.

Yeah the breast muscles need to come in more before they connect to the arpits. It doesn't llook as though they'll deform right.
Nice scarily wierd mask.

Wierd design but very cool lookng forward to see it textured
Andy H: LOL! Indeed.:D Thanks for the comment on the cloth modelling. This is my first attempt at it and it is a real bitch! I think I still need to tweak some verts to get it 100% yet though. No animation plans for this one. I am no animator anyway. I can rig pretty decent for posing purposes, but I can't animate my way out of a wet paper bag. So this will be just a still with the little demon pets added, (they are being done by another guy currently - see link on first page).
wedge: hmmm...... I sort of see what you mean. I'll play with that area after I get all the cloth tweaked up. Thanks.
DKMNZ: Thanks man. I'll take yours and wedge's advice and see what I can do.
borchert: Thanks.

lovin the style, should be very creepy when finshed. :argh:
Great Work

OK all, here is a UV layout of the body. Thanks to the wonders of the new LSCM unwrapping system available in Blender. Took me almost 3 hours to get it to this point. Editing seams until I got it to this level.

you still haven't changed those armpits. they are neither anatomically correct, nor will they deform properly. your model looks really great, EXCEPT for that.

Dude, the only image that shows up for me here or at ely is the torso with the unwrap image. I would really like to see this 'cuz from the one pic i can see it looks really good. Could you send me a shot or 2 in email so i can see???
I hope you still got my email addy, if not just PM me at elY!!!
Matt
wedge: you are correct. I got carried away with the new unwrap feature that just got added to Blender and I didn't go back and fix that. At least I won't have to completely redo this now. I will go and fix that this weekend.
Bapsis: Yeah, sorry man. Problem is with the host I use. It is a free service that Alltaken, over at elysiun, offers, and his bandtwidth got exceeded because of some bastard uploading a huge movie file and linking it back to his domain. Crapped out his bandwidth in no time. Should be back up tomorrow.

Here is a skin shader test:
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/bgdm/witch_015.jpg
Straight Blender render with AO and 1 area light. Used new ramp shaders for colour and specular. This has the base colour map done in Photoshop applied as well. Still need to tweak that a lot and add detail to it.
Think it's a little too greenish in colour right now. Maybe need some blue in the skin tone. Only the skin has a shader applied right now too. The rest is generic shader.

Starting to really come together, lookin' good.
Who would have thought that a witch would be STACKED.
Here is another update to the skin shader. I added some tattoos to the arms, (and maybe some more to come yet, not sure). Also played with the shader some and added a couple of more layers.
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/bgdm/witch_016.jpg
C&C appreciated.
gf666: Thanks man. Yeah, luck will be required. This is my most ambitious model to date. So we will see.
kgkraeer: LMAO! Yeah, she is pretty STACKEd for sure.

Anyone have anything to say about the latest test?

Brilliant modeling!
The skin shader looks ok, but still a bit plasticy - are you going for green / pale and moldy? or just greenish skin? Add some speckled specular bits to enhance the cellular look. Tatoos look good.
Keep going!
Thanks Andy H! Yeah, I am going to start painting the spec and bump maps today. I think I still need some more colour layers on her as well.
Hopefully an update later today.
BgDM
OK, I have the skin texture almost where I want it. Just need some more colour layers to be added in Photoshop.
So, I have now started to paint textures for the mask. First render here:
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/bgdm/witch_019.jpg
Gonna add some more faded colours to it and probably change up the base colour I have to somehting a little darker.

Thanks Lord Cauthon.
I think the mask is now done, unless you guys think I should change/add something.

Long time no post in this thread. Work has been very busy and I haven't had much time to work on her lately.
I did manage to get a rough arm rig done and here is a short test animation:
http://bgdm0.tripod.com/arm_test.avi (DivX Codex - 100 Kb - 2 Seconds)
Copy & Paste or Right Click & Save As.
There are a few bugs in the rig that I need to figure out. Some bone rotations are off and there are some lock constraints I need to add to the finger bones as well. Hopefully I can get this figured out. Never really played with any animatable rigs before. So this is going to be fun and a pain in the arse at the same time. :scream:
On a side note. My image server is temporarily down. Images should be back online by the end of the day.

Good work on the texturing mate.
The hand rig is a little screwy though. The middle finger is rotating badly in the first 20-25 frames, looks as though it might hurt a bit. :scream: Like you said, use a constraint on the bones, to stop irregular twisting.
The rest of the arm looks good so far.
Good work,
Sonix.
sonix: Thanks man. Yeah, the constraint thing in Blender is friggin a pain at times. But I'm getting there. Just keep trying different constraints till I get the desired result. I have fixed the weird bending inn the fingers. Now to just fine tune it.
BgDM
Forgot to show this one here. Latest skin test:
http://gallery.mudpuddle.co.nz/albums/bgdm/witch_022.jpg
I think I have it down now. Just need to soften up some colours and that will be it.
C&C is always appreciated.

Yet another texture update for you all. She is getting there. :D

wow. this is looking really cool. Have you worked on this any more? Did you model this in Blender? It's very impressive.

the_podman: Thanks for the comment. Yes, it's all Blender. Modelled and rendered. I have put her to the side for now, as I am working with another Blender user, who is modelling the demon pets. We will combine them together for final image when they are all completed.
We both have other things going on right now, so we will get back to them shortly.
Again, thanks for the nice reply.
