Well I've been modeling for years now and just recently gotten back into it. I use Maya 6.0 and this model that you see is 800 polys. For UV unwrapping I have been using the old Planer map and stitch together method however I have heard there is a way to do it more efficiently if someone could point me in that direction. basically I would like to obtain a very lifelike feel to this model. I am very new to shader networks to anything you suggest I would appreciate in very simple instructions.

I know photoshop CS inside and out so that isn't a problem I just haven't created anything "skin" related ever. I have always been the guy stuck with props, metals, wood, etc.

Thanks so much guys. Also if you would like..leave critique :)

PS: I know there is a split near the top of the head...that is now fixed

Have you examined the sticky thread at the top of this forum?

yes I have....would like more links or something on how to get into shaders and learn them from square one. Everytime I try to learn it's over my head. I read stahlberg's skin shader tutorial and half of the stuff mentioned I had never even heard of. Keep in mind I have never looked at the shaders in maya before really other than color maps. I know nothing about connections to other maps etc. oh and that human texture tutorial on how to paint a face from scratch really helped a few of my techniques :)

Well, I'm not a Maya user so I can't help much. Maybe do a search in the Maya forum? Surely they must have some shader tutorial links in there. Doesn't Maya come with tutorial vids?
