i have a wheel with (for now) one rope hanging loose, the wheel turns, i want the rope to move with it and move naturaly.

am using reactor for this, tried the rope with the "rope modifier", afterwards i tried the "cloth" modifier, but everytime the wheel starts and the rope stays in place:thumbsdow :thumbsdow

here is a short animation in divx 502, 300kb that shows the problem very clear.

i tried to link it with AttachToRB, with select and link, even made a long extruded polygon acting as cloth, the whole object staid in place:shame: :shame:

You can do that with the reactor cloth. I'm assuming you know a bit about reactor.

1) Apply a reactor cloth modifier to the rope object
Make sure you have "Ignore Selection" checked in the Vertex Selection group (near the bottom of the cloth modifier rollout)
2) Add a mesh select modifier to the rope
Select the row of vertices near the center of the wheel
3) Add a reactor AttachToRB modifier
Choose the wheel center object (purple colour in your AVI) as the object to attach
4) Add another mesh select modifier
Select the row of vertices near the rim of the wheel
5) Add another reactor AttachToRB modifier
Choose the wheel rim object (green colour in your AVI) as the object to attach

Now, go to the reactor rollout. Make sure that all of the non-cloth objects have mass greater than zero and are unyielding. If the objects have mass equal to zero, the rope will ignore them.

You'll have to adjust the cloth modifier parameters to get the look you want.

I tried this out on a scene and it worked. I've attached a picture showing the modifier stack on the rope object.

try it.............try the rigid body mode.....

simcloth have less option but work fine and it's not heavy to calculate....

as far as i know is that there is a rolling wheel. and you want to roll that rope object when it is rolling.

in image you have selected the polygons and then applied a cloth modifire. you dont need to apply cloth modifire to selected polygons.

deslect all polys. and apply the cloth modifire to whole rope object. then use attatch to regidbody modifire to the top corner of rope where you want to hook it to roller.

try to use editablemesh instead of editablepoly.

i dont have access to max yet but i soon i will check it practically
