View Full Version : Mass rename material/sub-object material?
PokeChop 07-13-2004, 04:36 PM Is there a way to mass rename sub-object material names of a selected object? Say something like sequential numbering?
Boat = main material
sub material ID 1 = Boat01
sub material ID 2 = Boat02
sub material ID 3 = Boat03
sub material ID 4 = Boat04
sub material ID 5 = Boat05
sub material ID 6 = Boat06
Thanks!

Maxscript seems to be a good option.

Blur's Renamer script works on the top-level material names, but not the sub-materials (as you probably know). Maybe you could improve their script...

If you find a way, please share.

We had a script that would rename all the multi-sub materials to the texture names in the diffuse slot. Haven't used it in years though. I'll see if I can find it.

Oops. Forgot to post the script. Sorry about that.
This one was written in-house ages ago. I hope Bryan doesn't mind me posting it.
You can probably alter it to do what you're after quite easily if it doesn't do the job for you as it is. I doubt it works on fancy materials, but it seems to work on standard multi-sub mats quite nicely (it must have been written for 3.1 or something but still works in at least 5.1).
Good luck.
