Great work,
I like the bump on the book and the piece of paper.
The curtain in the background looks too flat, the cubes maybe a little too arranged but other than that... *gulp* wow.:applause:
Ray
Thanks Guys! Really! :bounce:
Ray! I agree with you.. the curtain es toooo flat ( like a 4 points poly :D )
about the cubes.., I'm not sure if they are arranged.
What I see is that the edges are too sharp, but the DOF hide that :D
RoRo! do you ask for a Wire? you got it !

holy smokes. that looks like an image that was just enhanced with photoshop. I almost didn't believe its CG authenticity until i saw the wireframe, GOOD WORK. i hope you got paid well for that
Thx elekt !:bounce:
I used Corona post filter for specular and difuse glow
and Digital Confusion for DOF
that help me a lot to get realism style

I absoloutely agree with all that has been said above, but I do have one point to criticize. It seems that the three cubes on the right are not quite "real", perhaps their texture is too flat, and like you said, they could use rounded edges. If you just made that small change this would be "real" to just about any unsuspecting person you show this picture to.
Excellent work!!:applause: :applause:

Hey! gracias!
no hay tantos poligonos como parece..
use sub patchs para el papel y las tapas de los libros, lo otro es solido

THANKS GUYS!
chizzy! thanks for your first post !
Manuel M!
thx!
Corona is a 128 bit post process filter to make procedural glows on any surface atribute ( color, specular, difusse, reflects, luminosity... ) or things like object's alpha
cool for soft glows..
and Digital Confusion is a DOF ( deep of field ) filter that LW use after each antialias pass
McSpirit
thx! I'll try to put that soon

holly shit thats what i call realism ! YOU SIMPLY ROCKS!
Love it! Great textures and light. Very realistic and very Disney:applause::applause:
wooo thats superb
very inspiring.
for me though the guilding on the cover sits a little too far forward from the book. maybe its too reflective or not quite dirtied up enough?
Anton Andriesh
08-12-2002, 11:45 AM
Looks really very realistic! Very correct lightning!
The only thing I can't understand is why you have so many polygones? It only increases the render time...
freemind77 !
Thanks! really!
psil! thx!!!
peo! thx!
I can't get what is you point, what u said that is too reflective or not dirtied up?
Anton Andriesh ! thx
I don't agree with you!:p
It's not polygon overloaded
in the animation the book's cover opens and with it a few white pages, at the same moment the cam go into the page where the history begin
the polygon details are fine I think
Anton Andriesh
08-12-2002, 12:31 PM
aaaa... that's why.. I understand it :) great!..
but the cover should bend too? Or cubes? This is superfluous I think...
You should do nothing what only takes your time and increases the rendering time...

:buttrock: :buttrock:
i love your linghting and texture work. keep post:thumbsup:
My only crit is a compositional one: the book is too centred and too straight on. It would be better if it was slightly angled and off centre, your camera could then centre on it as it zooms in during the animation.
One thing I am really impressed with is your lighting, it is fantastic. You have observed the quality of indoor lighting really well. The table lamp is giving off a warm tungsten glow while the ambient room light is a great shade of deep blue permeating from outside. I think that this is the key to the realism of your scene.
Well done :)
Too realistic! Is it for an animation? Post all! Like it so much:love:

Very nice, looks good.:buttrock:
Anton Andriesh ! I think that the polys are right , this is not low poly modeling!
taisir! Thx!

Thx a lot!
You are right about the book's posittion, is too centred
good point
aura! thanks
I have not web space to put a animation

that is a really good scene. Good concentration on attention to detail. I really like to see concentration put on the environment that things are in, and not just the things.

everything looks pretty sweet except to me the edges on the childrens blocks are too sharp. They should either be rounded or angle planed .
Kickass piece...I hope you get paid heaps for this cause it really does look fantastic

Man, that's gorgeous! Nice work, JJ3d! Did you use X-DOF for the depth of field, or is that Lightwave native? If it's native, would you mind sharing your settings?
Thanks!

I think I might have a crit for you. I was watching an alias wavefront DVD last week and there's a tutorial about how to allow a light to increase the saturation of the colours it's illuminating.
Basically, when the human eye sees dark areas, it can't make out as much colour, so the area looks a bit more dull.
But in your image, it seems like the saturation of the colours is more uniform throughout.
The book looks pants wettingly incredible, but it's the rest of the scene that kind of doesn't feel right. Maybe a tiny bit more photoshop work could help?

beautiful render... curtains in background do look flat...

JJ3d this scene is brilliant. Full stop Awesome.
It is alot more realistic looking than alot of Pixar and Disney style though. Is the work that your studio is doing with this piece for disney going for a different more realistic style?
Where abouts is your studio based in South America?
One more question hehe, How come your company allowed you to show this work? Isn't their a disney contract to abide by where you are not allowed to show work until the product/film/animation is pubically released?
Don't want to detract from the work though. What light setup did you use? Traditional 3 point light setup or GI or?
PCollier - Thanks!
This work was realeased during the past year
I made this work as a freelance for a 2d production house called Hook Up Animation, that is located in Buenos Aires - Argentina
My studio is in Rosario, also in Argentina. I'm working for various Production houses
About the lights.. I have in this scene..
4 spinning Shadowmap spots for soft shadows using motion blur ( if you are maya user.. don't try this at home :shame: )
3 Shadowmap spots
2 negative Shadowmap spots
and 1 point without shadows
LW render! :buttrock:

OK, I have one possible crit and it's not even that big of a deal... It seems to me that there may possibly be a little too much DOF... Just for how close you are that little sailboat thingy looks a little too blurred, as do the blocks. However this does bring more focus to the book which is obviously what you wanted, so it's not like it really matters. No one else would probably say anything about it... And perhaps it isn't too much http://www.cgtalk.com/images/smilies/shrug.gif
Either way, it's quite beautiful and I thank you for the privilege of being able to look at it:thumbsup:

Excellent work. But just a little too much DOF. But that's nitpicking.Thumbs up,

I would aslo think that threre is a little bit to much DOF, but I really enjoy the window light! I think it gives a lot to the picture.

Beautiful texturing & lighting. .
Specular and bumps maps work perfectly.
I love the lighting and the colors that you choose to use
it really sets a pleasant mood.
I cant find any comments for you.
Actually some crayon markings on the table would look pretty cool, at least that is what my little boys desk looks like ;)
I would love to see the animation when it is complete.
