Hi there,
Been watching these forums for over a year, but now I'm really in a situation ;
A deal is set with a friend of mine that he buys my QuadroFX1000 for € 550,-.
He needs it preferably quickly within a month. What am I to replace that card with ??? My maximum budget, including that € 550, - then totals about € 1800,-

My apps ;
- Cinema4D XL R8 : I use this mostly and for modeling at work & freetime.
- Maya5 : hope to pick this up soon to learn character rigging.
- 3 pc : I (plan to) play a few games Splinter Cell 1 , Splinter Cell 3 and
Half Life 2. I don't game that much, but when I do appreciate 50 - 60 frames
p/sec at 1024 x768 with basic AA & AF DX9 shaders ON.

My PC ;
- P4 3,2 Ghz 800 fsb with HT
- 1024 MB of Corsair Twinx DDR500 RAM
- Asus P4C800E-Deluxe mobo
- Antec TruePower PSU 380W with 18A on the
12Volt rail.
- 80 Gig HD at 7200rpm SATA

Options from which I can't choose ;

- PNY QuadroFX3000 @ € 1699,-
- HP QuadroFX3000 @ € 1155,- This card has a clockfreq at 400 mhz ! that's 25 or 50 mhz LESS than the PNY Quadro ! I'm not sure what to think about this card.
- Ati FireGL X2-256T @ € 768,- in Germany ? I live in the Netherlands. Would anyone know a Dutch online shop who sells this card ? This card doesn't have issues in Cinema4D, like in Maya, does it ????
- Aopen GeForce 6800 GT @ € 429,- would this card do well at Cinema4D ? Aside from modeling in C4D I use lotsa lighting and 3D procedural textures too. Would the 6800 GT do alright ?

All options except the PNY QuadroFX3000, leave open budget to add additional 1 Gig of Corsair ram, which would total my rig up to 2 gig or ram.

So...I promised my buddy the deal is set within a month. But I really need a good replacement option for mostly Cinema4D R8, then those 3 games and hopefully soon Maya.

Anyone with good suggestions for a shortnotice decision ?

Greetz,
Knotter8

The GT will serve you best. C4D will not use any gfx cards to calculate procedurals

Actually I just added a GT score to the database

^ Ah, thanx :)
Just happened to find a reseller which sells :
PNY QuadroFX3000 at € 1459,-
PNY QuadroFX4000 at € 2070,-

( for any more ppl interested ; http://www.magna.nl/magna.txt )

Mmm. Maybe kinda stupid to have sold my QFX1000. It's perfect for my
level of skill currently. I have the cash for both the 3000 and 4000. That
1459,- pricetag seems ok too. A 6800GT plus another 1 G or RAM sounds
good as well....

You have no further info on Ati's FireGL X2-256T concerning C4D btw ?
I like to model in hypernurbs, isoparm display mode in viewports..

(updated my profile btw. some linkage to my old 3d stuff)

The Quadro will give you 0 benefit in c4d, it doesnt do anything which the GF cards can't. The FireGL is just an overpriced Radeon card, again, it wont give you any benefits over the consumer cards.

If you need a professional card on a certain budget, try going the ATI way.
I was on the way to the shop ( wanted to buy the FireGL X2) when i found this site :
http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=3&var1=105&var2=0
And it works like a charm. I turned my R9800Pro into a FireGL X2 without any problems. I can also use the FireGL X2 driverset and not one app makes problems.

Good luck

Tom

P.S.: By the way, i do not have any issues with maya 6 and the ati.
