do video cards hold onto clock speed changes? can you burn the change into the bios of the card? sounds difficult if you can do it at all... that would be so sneeky...

Yes, you can change the BIOS and affect the default clock speeds of the card. You must first guarantee that the card will perform properly under those new speeds. Use a software like Speedstep to speed up your GPU and RAM - test it as much as possible, then you can try and find a BIOS that will work.

Both cards usually have to come from the same PCB though, or it won't work.

Examples flashing a Radeon 9800 Pro -> Radeon 9800 XT

No, they are pucker quadro's, there is no dodgyness involved in these cards (or at least the one i have) but hell why would you trust someone on the internet, i understand that! I bought from this guy and was pleased with the product (took a chance, basically) and the price. I dont gain anything from you buying it from this guy (and why should you believe that!?) I just thought i would share a great deal. So please dont sully my name on this forum by suggesting that I would try and flog off overclocked cards that arent genuine!

Did I insult you somehow?
I was just answering the question asked by MaDSheeP - it's possible to flash a video card BIOS with a higher end card. That's all.

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with these cards - and by all means it's the cheapest I've ever seen them. It's a great deal.

there are no nvidia cards.
it should be offered as
PNY QuadroFX 1100, 128MB DDR, DVI, AGP

that's one thing that looks a bit strange...
but the price looks good.

btw, you can't "overclock" quadro cards to another model. and you also can't really hardmod geforce fx cards to quadro.

the serials on the back are 'hp: etc, etc' so i think that they are hewlett packard cards (who also manufacture quadro's)

I cant understand why they are so cheap, but they are pucka. Maybe he gets them straight from america without import tax? Thats the only explanation i can think of why they are so cheap. if i go to america and buy a quadro for $600 at the exchange rate of 1.85 that quadro costs me £324. Maybe france has better exchange rate?? Anyways...

ahh, so it's OEM cards. because the cards manufactured by HP don't go retail, as far as i remember.
only PNY sell retail cards.
that's a bit fishy, to sell OEM hardware, but who cares. ;)
it explains why they are cheaper, but the question is, where do this guy get them from?

it's definitely not illegal in the EU. in germany and austria you can buy microsoft OEM windows versions legally in stores because a german court decided against the bind-to-hardware concept.
see:

this card goes for about 750eur retail right now, he sells it for 350eur...less than the half...not bad, but no warranty obviously.

I thought the Quadro FX 1100 used DDR rather than DDRII because of latency issues with DDRII hampering performance.

yeah, no warranties, leads, drivers or manuals, pay for what you get i suppose. I did see hp cards for sale on another website but priced at 700 euros or so. Suddenly he has loads of them too!
