View Full Version : Active rigid in y only
manosteele12 07-11-2004, 09:18 PM Is it possible to have an active rigid body only active in y. I need to lock the x and z but have the object dynamic. Any suggestions.
Thanks.

i think constraining the object in an axis makes maya freak out.
maybe you could write expression after dynamic that fixes the position and acceleration values..

You should post some more details of what you're trying to accomplish so we can come up with a way to accomplish it. Can you just make it a rigid body, run the simulation, bake the keys, then delete the X and Z channels, then key those as you want?

I am making a disc golf basket. If you don't know what that is check out http://www.innovadiscs.com/. Anyway I wan't the chains on the basket to be dynamic. If I run the simulation with one chain it does fine. The more chains I add the more maya says that there are interpenetrations and the simulation comes to a screeching halt. I was thinking if I can simulate one chain with the middle ring around the pole constrained to x and z that I could just duplicate the chain once it was at a relaxed state instead of making them all go limp at once. Thanks for your willingness to help.http://homepage.mac.com/mos4/goal.tif

I can't quite remember, but can you just break the connentions on the X and Z channels of the object while it's a rigid body? To stop dynamics being calculated on those axis?

How would I go about doing that?

Right-click on the attribute then go to "break connections." Not so hard eh? ;P
When I found that "break connections" it was one of my best days for Maya. That little command saves a lot of time and I don't know why my bonehead teachers never mentioned it!

Sweet! you guys are life savers. Thanks alot.
Edit: Crap why does it say "Source node will not allow the disconnection
Edit: oh allow disconect is in the attribute editor.
It works Perfect. Thanks again.

Is there a way I can edit my attributes so there aren't so many interpenetrations. It seems that when I run the simulation to get the chains to relaxe and then run it again they are all interpenetrating.
