Hi guyz,

I am a maya user and I am new to this shading thing. I am in the process of texturing a rather furry character. How would I create a shader which simulates fur? I realise that there is a fur plugin, but it seems to be too processor intensive on my modest computer. If any one has any efficient solutions I would be forever in your debt!

thanx heaps in advance!

There was a nice tutorial here http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48866
But I think the link is not working anymore, maybe it's moved somewhere.

Yes I saw this link, and I was very excited when I found it, only to discover the link was dead! after this I fell into a spiralling downfall of depression. My only hope of salvation is if someone can tell me how to do a fur shader. some1 help me!!! thanx heaps n e wayz!

thanx Atwooki!

That shader was quite helpful, although it wasn't quite what I was looking for, I was looking for more hairy like fur. But I'm sure I can learn a thing or two from the hypershade and perhaps change some parameters to suit my needs.

thanx heaps!!!
