it's not directly cps. it's different because it shows up like the subds's with a half transparent proxy and includes the new smooting algorithms.

It's the same as CPS.. But CPS can Mirror and merge the Smoothed Vertices for you while you are working.
The Proxy is by default transparent but you can choose to only see the wireframe like CPS

All the features of CPS have always been included in maya. Like linking the lowerez version of a model to a highrez version is just done through the connection editor by connecting the "out mesh" top the "in mesh". Dirk just did a really good job of making them all avaliable in a nice clean interface. He said that he is planning to use smooth proxy in the new version of CPS once 4.5 comes out.
