this picture looks great - i am a giantic fan of the lord of the rings ( the book! ) ; isn't that the scene in the beginning - the creation of the one ring by the dark lord sauron ??

the text on the ring looks JUST like in the movie so hot it's glowing when burned on... looks just like the .... ermm melted steel? (lava looking stuff) a blacksmith works with. :thumbsup:

i attempted to make that ring earlier... but i didnt know how to make the glowing text.. im still new at this :shrug: however i did make a really nice stand for it like was in rivendel :cool:
if you dont mind i will post a picture.. *i dont mean to steal or ruin your thread* but i thought this is good in the spirit of LOTR

Cool, Great render. Mesh looks a little dense in the wireframe. Does it really need that many poly's?

About the glowing text...
I made 2 copies of the ring. Scaled them so they wouldn't get hidden by the original ring. One with the inside removed,
the other with the outside removed, applied two opacity mapped, self-illuminating materials (also had a material g-buffer on them, for the lens effects glow). Note that the inside text is actually reversed (since the cylinder UWV map only works on the outside of a tube).
And... the One Ring can never have enough polys :p

Well done, never seen anyone do it so well. I've been attempting the same, although i don't use Max, i use LW. I get the texturing wrong. Could someone explain how he did it. I find it difficult to get the shape right to, never realized it until now.
You did it well with the Eye of Sauron, i would assume that's post.
